1. Heavy upon all mankind is he who is arrogant,
And if the earth were just, it would split open with his body.
١. ثقيلٌ عَلَى كلِّ الورى من تكبرِ
ولو أنصفتْ ساخَت بجثمانِه الأرضُ
2. And if the wicked knew, in their terrible abode,
That this despised one was their partner, they would not be pleased.
٢. ولو علِم العاصونَ في شرِّ دارهم
شريكاً لهم هذا المذمَّمُ لم يرضُوا
3. Oh, the affliction of one who inclines towards the ugliness of his face,
And oh, the one whom hatred of all mankind has been imposed upon.
٣. فيا داء مَن يرنُو إلى قبحِ وجهه
ويا مَن على كلِّ الورى بغضهُ فرضُ
4. The world has indeed narrowed around me, with all its expanse,
Because of his manners, and its length, and width, and breadth.
٤. لقد ضاقَتِ الدنيا علىَّ بأسْرها
مِن أخلاقه واللوحُ والطولُ والعرضُ
