1. We charged at them one morn, armored steeds
Bristling with blades, riders poised to strike

2. The nimble mounts sought battle, unfettered,
With flowing manes and unbound reins alike.

3. Until we clashed at Suleim, a fierce fray
Where youths will fear the worse of two-edged fights.

4. Ask then the ravens of Banu Fazara about them,
Ask the oath-sworn clans of Gaṭafan as well.

5. Ask the hyena on the day Na’f lies still,
Ask the hounds about the tribe of Nabhan.

6. We pelt them with loathsome arrows in throngs
Till they flee our onslaught without fail.
