1. I fight until I see no more a fighter,
And I survive when only the shrewd survives,

2. And I'm not hot-tempered, though when
The first raiders appear, I frown,

3. And the tribe of Akhzam hurls rocks around me
And the tribe of Salaman, the protectors, and Sanbas,

4. And Shammas ibn Amr and his gang hurl them too,
And Lord, among them a repeller and he is the fiercest,

5. Swift into the fray, testing his weapons
So that his spear scarcely takes a breath
