1. Her beauty fills the beholder’s eye
Like a blossoming branch,

2. With hair black as pitch,
Adorning the poet.

3. Lips like the rising moon
When dawn breaks.

4. The scent of roses wafts
When she passes by.

5. I gambled my soul
Crazy with love for her.

6. You forget me from afar
Yet still I remember you.

7. Since love left me raving
I have no restful night.

8. True to the pact of love
I remain, though abandoned.

9. For her sake, the critic
Has become my defender.

10. A gazelle stirred in my heart
A moment of weakness.

11. But your mischievous glance,
Keeps my eyes awake.

12. Not a wink of sleep
Since you left me.

13. Only days with God
While we're on the precipice.

14. The secret between us
Hid from the spy.

15. A houri, whose blood is pure
Sinning in her cheek.

16. You incline toward nothingness
With luck insufficient.

17. How can grace abound
With your perfect generosity?

18. Leave me from the harms of fate
And the circuit of the spheres,

19. For my defender of the faith
Brings me endless victory.

20. A cloud that rains generosity,
An ocean full of piety.

21. Noble, ever-flowing,
From his palm, water flows forth.

22. Noble in word and deed,
Lofty in will and thought.

23. When the torrent of his munificence flows
Like a surging, billowing flood.

24. He populates the land with kindness
In place of tyranny and wrong.

25. He holds the standard of justice that replaces
The injustice of the oppressor.

26. Beside his leadership, others
Seem small and insignificant.

27. When the wide expanse is folded up,
He rises like a roaring lion.

28. Swords shine from the necks
Of his enemies, dripping blood.

29. He pardons forever, able to forgive,
Bestowing well-being.

30. A breast that praises offspring,
Wherein blooms every flower.

31. A palm that gives plenty to the deprived -
How many a barren hand has he revived!

32. He has a known, habitual generosity -
He surpasses Hatem al-Ta'i's fame.

33. He brings tranquility and rest,
Where before was toil and turmoil.

34. It is said that in our midst,
He straightens the slip of the stumbler.

35. When he greets guests,
His smile beams radiant.

36. His face shines bright, while
The miser's face scowls.

37. In drought and war alike,
He sees the testing that tries men's souls,

38. A flaming meteor,
A rain-giving cloud.

39. So who but Amr has restored
Our mosque, and who but Amir?

40. Why hide, Abu al-Fadl,
Your clear superiority amongst us?

41. God has graced you
And purified your noble lineage.

42. You are the guiding knowledge,
The lofty, brilliant honor.

43. Fate's caprice breaks
Against you, its repairer.

44. Just as no era can be mended
Save by you, its breaker.

45. I have held my peace against you
And so stand victorious.

46. For from you comes grace, perfection -
And from me, to you, all favor.

47. Behold me thanking abundantly
Those who have shown me kindness.

48. By God, my gratitude to them
Spreads far and wide!

49. Whoever refuses your bounty
Is an ingrate, faithless wretch.

50. You have summoned the leaders of the people -
Present and absent alike -

51. To pray your shadow remain over them
As you remain their helper.
