1. I wished I was a stone thrown by a slinger
To alleviate a worry that has no relief today

2. Borrow me a grudge if you wish, for I am not
Equal to it, so who can suffice me?

3. If I have been hidden from them, the
Full moon becomes obscured to slit eyes at night

4. Just like the lone pearl you see
Always hiding in shells

5. Or is not my poetry which has not ceased dispersing
Its fragrance in the lands, folding the banners

6. It is sweeter than the cheeks when
Shyness has grown roses on them ready for plucking

7. The reciters recover with it and with it
Pricks the hearts of enemies and stabs the envious

8. O most noble of people, O aid of the faith of
God, O you who tomorrow becomes the refuge of the sound

9. I have not exaggerated your praise so listen
To it and do not listen to the exaggerators

10. A group whom I have tired from them with conversation
As heavy as those with light heads

11. Their nostrils over the reins of tongues
Rough in speech, thickness of uncouthness

12. How do they not find in one endowed with kindness by God and subtle meanings
One whose sea of ideas you see from his drawing depth

13. O young man whose generosity doubles
Asking and aiding the weak

14. I have become accustomed to benevolence from you so complete
And take care of my matter before we meet

15. Whenever I glance away from you
Words fail me and my eyelids betray me

16. You promised me a long stay with you so trust in
Me with the length of intent and determination

17. O young man at whose appearance hearts tremble
When he charges into the midst of his armies

18. The lightening flashes between the spears and the Yemeni swords
Above which are the lineage of Dawood and another of piety and chastity

19. For you, fresh roses and a fertile expanse
And a capacious companionship and shady shelter

20. And a turning from approval, his ways ever provide you
Contentment, not needing to seek favor

21. You are one who publicized my poetry when it was
Feeble, whom the winds blew upon

22. Do not name me with other than my name, for what displeased creation
That I am lame in harmonizing

23. So reflect, even if my poetry were spurious
Would I dazzle with it the assayer?

24. Or were I among the thieves, I would not have brought
My complaint to the diviner

25. Their aim in my absence is to distance me
From you, O owner of dew, without doubt

26. No poet ever followed my tracks
So repel the talk of those who slander behind my back

27. And long life to one who becomes a rival
Surpassing Amr in his running and lightness

28. You are the full moon of calamities, you still make them
Radiant, and the fire of wars and hospitality

29. You loaned me your generosity, so take it
Freely, O fulfiller of loans

30. Whenever I repeat it to listeners
It has the effect of magic on minds

31. The storytellers sing it, and it provides
Relief from meeting loved ones and the thousands

32. Not like the poetry of those who, when they recite,
Amidst summer, one feels the coolness

33. Except for your vast delegations, which still
Remain spacious, hosting multitudes
