1. By my father and me, he who visited the enchantresses,
So I embraced him and kissed his magic,
١. بأبي وبي من زار سحرة
فضمته ولثمت سحره
2. Like the full moon is his face and light,
He came suddenly and the dawn shone,
٢. كالبدر وجها والديا
جي طرة والصبح غرة
3. With a soft, languid glance,
And a tall, graceful stature,
٣. ذو ناظر خنث الجفو
ن وقامة هيفاء نضرة
4. Absent though he remains,
Inclined to separation if you separate from him,
٤. متغيب ما أن تزا
ل إلى الهجر ان هجره
5. Oh how I wish he would befriend reunion,
And cease his aloofness and separation,
٥. يا ليته ألف الوصا
ل ومن جفوته وهجره
6. A waist as delicate as if
Molded by the most skilled sculptor's hands,
٦. خصر لماه يخالني
من دقة ناحلت خصرةه
7. O you who bears love for him willingly,
While justice in it is forced,
٧. يا من حملت له الهوى
طوعا وفيه العدل مكره
8. I ransom the indifference of your glances,
For which I prepared the bones to kindle,
٨. أفدي فتور لواحظ
لك أعدت العضاء فتره
9. And red embers and cheeks,
Under which is water and coal,
٩. وشعاع حمرة وجنة
لك تحتها ماء وجمره
10. O Lord the full moon has vanished from me,
So replace it with another full moon,
١٠. يا رب ليل غاب عن
ني بدره فخلفت بدره
11. And I mixed the wine of the cup for me,
With your pure saliva and wine,
١١. ومزجت خمر الكأس لي
من ريقكَ الصافي بخمرة
12. So when will I regain consciousness and hands
Of your intoxication and your sweetness intoxication?
١٢. فمتى أفيف ولي بكف
فكَ سكرة وبقيك سكرة
13. And if the sea of worries is turbulent,
I made in it a bridge a passage,
١٣. وإذا طمى بحر الهمو
م جعلت فيه الجسر جسرة
14. And connected every night,
Gladly and soon in the morning,
١٤. ووصلت كلّ عشيّة
خبببا وتقريبا ببكرة
15. I hope for a minister who never
Ceased being righteous to whom he owes righteousness,
١٥. أرجو وزيرا لم يزل
برا بمن يمتاح بره
16. Of restful disposition,
His tranquility calmed the ferocity of the clouds,
١٦. ذو راحة هطالة
راحت لغر السحب ضره
17. And courage that makes you forget Ziyad,
In the fray, and shows you his life,
١٧. وشجاعة تنسيك زي
دا في الوغى وتريك عمره
18. A lion whose hands' might,
The roses praise their effect,
١٨. ليث ندى كفيه غي
ث يحمد الوراد أثره
19. A king who drags the train of his gown,
On the neck of the careful,
١٩. ملك يجرر ذيل هم
ته على هام المجره
20. Nothing preoccupies him but you, no but
Even if the passionate were calm,
٢٠. لا يعتريه سوا
لك لا وإن الححت ضجرة
21. Who satisfies the guests with his hospitality,
And the winds with sustenance,
٢١. يقري السديف بسدفة
ضيفانه والريح قره
22. I give good tidings to the seeker of his support,
When I saw the cheer of his face,
٢٢. بشرت طالب رفده
بالنجح حين رأيت بشره
23. My master, the defender of the faith, you
Are a source of tranquility for the eye of those who hope in you,
٢٣. مولاي عون الدين أن
ت لعين من يرجوك قره
24. By God, how many mouths has
His crown opened with his smiling mouths,
٢٤. لله كم ثغر فتح
ت رتاجه بعطفان ثغره
25. And for how many armies like stars,
In number and abundance is his multitude,
٢٥. ولرب جيش كالكوا
كب والحص عددا وكثره
26. I warned him at al-Mushrifiyya,
My breasts preceded and announced him,
٢٦. ناهدته بالمشرفي
ي وسابق نهد ونشره
27. And I split him with the splitting of the armor,
A person does not hope to mend it,
٢٧. وصدعته صدع الزجا
جة لا يرجي المرء جبره
28. So he repeated reciting poems,
That you composed and guaranteed him victory,
٢٨. فغدا يكرر منشدا
من صنته وضمنت نصره
29. Nothing reveals the darkness of the overwhelming gloom,
Except the son of his father,
٢٩. ما يكشف الغماء خا
ئض غمرة إلا ابن حره
30. O you whose chest fills,
The terrors a chest,
٣٠. يا أيها الصدر الذي
لاملأ الأهوال صدره
31. O you whose character settled,
And you have become bitter to the enemies,
٣١. يا من حلت أخلاقه
وغدت على الأعداء مرة
32. O best of noble deeds, most captive of people captivated,
How you have removed affliction with your palms,
٣٢. يا أحسن الكرما اح
سانا وأسرى الناس أسره
33. From the sons of hopes their hardship,
And flooded them with known fingers,
٣٣. كم قد أزلت بشر كف
فك عن بني الآمال عسره
34. With the honorable gift of generosity,
So precede, you are poetry itself, O sagacious one, you know,
٣٤. وغمرتهم بأنامل
معروفة بالعرف ثرة
35. Poetry Hejazi, that has
Passion that makes up for its passion,
٣٥. فاستجل شعرا أنت تع
رف يا نبيه القدر قدرهخ
36. Easy and strong, it is water
In its flow and rock in its firmness,
٣٦. شعرا حجازيا له
غزل يقوم بعذر عذره
37. Be gentle with the noble Eid,
So it honored its tenth,
٣٧. سهلا وجزلا فهوما
ء في تسلسله وصخره
38. And defeat your enemy wherever he is,
For religion has made his likes forbidden.
٣٨. وتهن بالعيد الشر
يف فقبله شرفت عشره
٣٩. وانحر عدوَك حيث حل
ل فقد أحلّ الدين نحوه
