1. Your conduct has a praiseworthy effect,
And over its ashes the pottery is plentiful.

١. لك سيرة محمودة الأثر
وعلى ثراها بالفخار ثري

2. And virtues that purify its generosity
For the delegation, from benevolence and from adversity.

٢. ومكارم تصفو كرائمها
للوفد مِن مَنٍّ ومِن كَدرِ

3. You are the one whose deeds are always
In the darkness of days like sparks.

٣. أنت الذي أفعاله أبدا
في دهمة الأيام كالغررِ

4. By my father your traits that you were created with
Are like flowers, nay like bright stars.

٤. بأبي خلائقك التي خلقت
كالزهر بل كالأنجم الزُهُرِ

5. And your resolves, wherever mentioned
Suffice over mentioning them repeatedly.

٥. وعزائم لك حيث ذكرت
أغنت عن الصمصامة الذكرِ

6. O leader of the noble horses to
A night of raging darkness.

٦. يا قائدَ الخيل العتاقِ إلى
ليلٍ من الهيجاءِ معتَكِر

7. And opener of a mouth that was forbidden
And judge of spears in the openings.

٧. ومبيح ثغرٍ كان ممتنعا
ومحكِّم الأرماحِ في الثُّغَرِ

8. For the story of your glory, both new and old
In us, for it is not summarized.

٨. لحديث مجدك والقديم معا
فينا حيث غير مختصرِ

9. O seeker of benevolence from a group
Who shun those seeking their benevolence.

٩. يا طالب المعروف من نَفَرٍ
عن طالبي معروفهم نُفُرِ

10. Visit one who praises the forearm of guidance, for through it
You suffice over a forearm and over a burden.

١٠. زر مادحا عضد الهدى فبه
تستغنِ عن عضدِ وعن وَزرِ

11. Lord of the tumult, it does not cease to have
In it arrows with blades that shred.

١١. رب الوغى ما إن يزال له
فيها زناد بالنصالِ يري

12. And the early arrivals travel heavily laden
And the late arrivals appear like betrayal.

١٢. والسابقات تروح مجفرة
والسابغات تلوح كالغدرِ

13. And he descended in his field and called out a call
The full moon of calls and granter of the full moon.

١٣. وأنزل بساحته وناد ندى
بدر الندى وواهب البِدَرِ

14. The clouds of his comfort have not rained down
So the world was in need of rain.

١٤. ما استمطرت أنواء راحته
فاحتاجت الدنيا إلى مطرِ

15. O son of the victorious, may you remain
With my fullness of your favors and victory.

١٥. يا ابن المظفر دمت مشتملا
بملأتي نعماكَ والظَّفرِ

16. And remain envied and never looked
One day to you, the gazes of others.

١٦. وبقيت محسودا ولا نظرت
يوما إليك نواظر الغِيرِ

17. You are a man whose branch has fruit
Hoped for, and how many a branch without fruit.

١٧. أنت امرؤ في عودِهِ ثمرُ
يرجى وكم عود بلا ثَمرِ

18. We have not seen before your generosity one
With generosity, nor one of good tidings from a harbinger.

١٨. ما إِن رأينا قبل جودِك ذا
جودا ولا ذا البِشرِ مِن بَشَرِ

19. For there he sold benevolence and sold enmity
Two opposites in length and in shortness.

١٩. فهناك باع ندىً وباع عداً
ضِدّان في طول وفي قِصَرِ

20. O you who has sweetened with your favours for me
In roses and in perfumed wine.

٢٠. يا أيها المدر الذي عذبت
نعماه لي في الوِرد والمَدَرِ

21. Be felicitous with your fasting, and remain what the doves'
Foliage has adorned on the trees' branches.

٢١. إسعد بصومكِ وابق ما سَجَعَت
ورقُ الحمامِ بمورِقِ الشَّجَرِ
