1. I spread your virtues in the land as my habit,
Though you, without generosity, are more deserving of me.

2. O rain of the barren outcasts, if they despair,
And lion of the brave warriors, not of the forest.

3. My poverty overcame me when you frowned upon me
With a flood of your gifts, O conqueror.

4. How many favors you have bestowed upon me,
Changing my barrenness through them into lushness.

5. I swore by the House, frequented
By every devotee of righteousness, an answerer of prayers,

6. The oath of the gracious Lord never left
Those who appeal for favor and the seeking of requests.

7. I have leaned on Him toward a cloud of dewy mist,
Yearning for the tail of the noble steed, a rain-laden cloud.

8. Accustomed am I to repeating the struggle for livelihood
And familiar with battles, a devotee of war.

9. I strike a steed that has become unique in every
Glory without wavering.

10. And better than Zayd is the superiority of rank
Of one regarding whose generosity I have no doubts.

11. O Quraysh, generous of hand, kinship
Is nearer than the distant hope, far from shame.

12. You are to a friend like honey in taste
And at times to a foe like aloe.

13. Fasting and heat will both intercede
For me, O Magnanimous One, at your door.

14. So favor my style, for I am a man
Who refuses to go out to you in hardships,

15. Especially when I know the road
Well from traveling it with brave men and nomads.

16. As for him who was jealous when you took
My tattered shift and clothes—

17. You never cease to withdraw from praising
Epochs of thanks that will remain for descendants.
