1. He came to us with a cup of joy,
Like kohl on a fertile eye's rapture.

2. A fair one who wouldn't bend
To a languid, drunk lover.

3. In his lovely face a pool
Of roses and myrtle lies.

4. A masculine air yet also
A curled, feminine allure in his eyes.

5. Handsome son of Handsome, always
Sweet and joking in his talk.

6. I never saw a branch of his
Swayed by the gentlest wind or walk.

7. His silent anklet contradicts
A waist articulated by a sash.

8. Amazed that he claims to be
A prince over sailors rash!

9. Since my tears exposed my love
I have not concealed my passion.

10. Tell me to whom shall I complain
Of the injustice of his flirtatious fashion?

He made my heart sick, so is there

12. A remedy in truthful eyes?
I love her, by Him who made her,

13. Like Abu Al-Fadl loved the sublime.

14. Al-Areheeh who sufficed us
With his charity and grace

15. And who follows everyday
With his generosity the virtuous ways.

Decisive, fulfilling intentions

17. Faster than unsheathing a sword.
He terrifies enemies and makes them

18. Quake while dignified without a word.

19. Many dishonorable came hoping
Yet left in dishonored clothes.

20. Praised, his dignity protected,
Permitted wealth he bestows.

His face always brought good news

22. To those who sought success.
The leading horses galloping

23. With their riders’ shining armor.

24. Through him the world was balanced
With his hopes realizing chest.

25. In his abode he rested at peace
Without hasty guests.

26. I married a daughter of generous birth
Matching the son of Al-Muzain Al-Qurah.

27. I angered envious hearts that I
Attained this beyond my worth.

28. So listen, O Excellence of the Faith,
And admire its eloquent prose.

29. Draw near when she comes willingly,
Without shying or resistance of repose.

30. O son of overflowing seas of kindness,
And son of full moons of splendor.
