1. He rebuked me when he saw me living luxuriously,
Yet I have no wealth that I have earned.

2. He urged me to be modest, yet if I see
A gathering where praise is expected,

3. I will not refrain from praising a miser
One day, nor will I sell praise to the mean.

4. But I praised him, for praise befits one
Who gives thousands and conquers kingdoms.
