1. O you whose affection is pure and free from bitterness
And whose appearance puts the moon to shame
١. يا من له ود صفا من كدر
وطلعة يخجل منها القمر
2. O son of one whose comfort is a pleasure
And whose cheerful face delights people
٢. ويا ابن من راحته مزنة
وبشره حلو يروق البشر
3. Unlike others whose eyes are empty and lustful
Who take my card when I have nothing
٣. غيرك صفر العين مستحكر
يأخذ مني كارتي عن صفر
4. You have a face that when I look upon it
My gaze is lowered in shyness
٤. وأنت ذو وجه إذا قابلت
حياءه نظرة عين قطر
5. With a mustache that astonishes
Emerging from its frightfulness in beauty
٥. والشارب الخباز ذو حولة
يخرج من وحشتها بالعور
6. With a flavor that he kneads from it
And a mustache that even the vilest find repulsive
٦. بنكهة يعجن منها
وشارب يقذر منه القذر
7. He swears by God over a morsel from it
And knows that he has erred
٧. يحلف والله على قرصة
منها ويدري أنه قد فجر
8. A thousand oaths while in Mecca
With the Black Stone beside him and the Black Stone
٨. ألف يمين وهو في مكة
والحجر من جانبه والحجر
9. So the Merciful has shortened his life
And not prolonged the life of his brother
٩. فقصر الرحمن في عمره
ولا نما عمر أخيه عمر
10. For he is more blasphemous than him and than
Anyone who says other than what I have said of him is blasphemous
١٠. فإنه أكفر منه ومن
قال سوى ما قلت فيه كفر
11. If you are kind enough to grant it
A benefactor is never harmed one day
١١. فإن تفضلت ونفذتها
فما على المحسن يوما ضرر
12. And if you refrain, there is no help for it
The torrent may dry up and the rain cease
١٢. وإن توانيت فلا حيلة
قد ينضب السيل ويجفو المطر
