1. A heart churned by passion,
And tears streaming down,
١. قلب يقلبه الغرام
ومدامع تهمي سجامُ
2. And eyelids that have sworn,
Never to be closed by sleep,
٢. وجفون عين أقسمت
أن لا يلم بها المنامُ
3. Yearning for the one whose face,
Is dawn though its form is darkness,
٣. شوقا إلى من وجهه
صبح وطرته ظلامُ
4. A moon that started my resurrection,
The cause of my bending and standing tall.
٤. قمر أقام قيامتي
منه التثني والقوام
5. Turn away, Reem Saloui, from passion,
And its consummation which cannot be wished for,
٥. ريم سلوي عن هوا
ه ووصله ما لا يرام
6. Do not blame me for my love of him,
Foolishly, and blame does no good,
٦. لا موا على حبّي له
سفها وما يجدي الملامُ
7. Alas! His eyes will never
Awaken, though their slumber is tumultuous,
٧. هيهات يصحو طرفه
أبدا وريفته صدامُ
8. Sweet of features and glance,
Smooth cheeked, his beauty is perfection,
٨. حلو الشَّمائل واللّمى
جذلان زورته لمامُ
9. Like the full moon is to me his visage,
When it is full, and his is complete,
٩. كالبدر لي منه المحا
ق إذا أبدا وله التمَّامُ
10. The year of union in his nearness,
A day, and a day, God is Eternal,
١٠. عام الوصال بقربه
يوم ويوم الصمد عام
11. I grew up in my love for him,
And passion is a growing boy,
١١. قد شبت في حبي له
والوجد مقتبل غلامُ
12. Oh cupbearer, bring to his eyelids,
That which cures their sickness,
١٢. يا سقي بلواحظ
لجفونها خلق السقامُ
13. Why is your cheek aflame?
It kindles while my heart is in turmoil,
١٣. ما بال خدك ناره
تذكو وفي قلبي الضرامُ
14. So I head to the shrines and dwellings,
Where my peace, Salma, has lodged,
١٤. فعلى الحمى ومنازل
حلت بها سلمى السلامُ
15. I rave with the mention of her,
And so is the enamored raving one,
١٥. دمن أهيم بذكرها
وكذا المحب المستهامُ
16. I swore by the Sacred House,
To which the holy pilgrims flock,
١٦. أقسمت بالبيت الحرا
مِ يؤمه الركب الحرامُ
17. And what it contains,
A gathering, and what the shrine contains,
١٧. وبما حوى من جمعه
جمع وما ضم المقامُ
18. I have clung to the cord,
Of the highest, so I cannot be blamed,
١٨. لقد اعتلقت بحبل أر
وع من أجار فما يضامُ
19. A king whose worries,
Became lofty, so he is the highest,
١٩. ملك سمت هماته
وعلت به فهو الهمامُ
20. When Abu Al-Fadl Al-Karim protects you,
My greetings of peace to you,
٢٠. وإذا أبو الفضل الكري
م حماك سالمك الحمامُ
21. Who has granted me the means of my state,
Which she created sufficient,
٢١. من رمَّ لي أسباب حا
لي وهي مخلقة رمامُ
22. She shook with generosity and compassion for me,
So from me spread greetings of peace,
٢٢. واهتز لي كرما ورق
ق فاورقت مني السلامُ
23. The Euphrates river of overflowing generosity,
With pilgrims crowding its banks,
٢٣. بحر فرات للوفو
دِ على شرائعه ازدحامُ
24. I thanked its acts of highness,
In its presence I became elevated and protected,
٢٤. شكرت صنائعه السوا
مي عندها سام وحامُ
25. And I see the spark of his generosity,
Quenching the thirst of the eras,
٢٥. وأرى زناد المكرما
ت بجوده يروى الأوامُ
26. It has made me covet,
His magnificent ambitions,
٢٦. قد رغبتني في المدي
ح له رغائبه الجسام
27. It is the living, life-giving, healing,
In times of calamity, the certain death,
٢٧. فهو الحيا المحيي الصفا
ة وفي الوغى الموت الزوامُ
28. With sweet dispositions,
Like a meadow, its pasture brought joy,
٢٨. بخلائق معسولة
كالروض راضته الرهام
29. I made it high,
Thus its hands are exalted,
٢٩. قد صيرته في العلى
فذا أياديه التوامُ
30. My lord Majd Al-Din,
Whose resolve is the sharp sword,
٣٠. مولاي مجد الدين يا
من عزمه العضى الحسامُ
31. O guardian of the refugees whom,
Since you have ruled, no lament was heard,
٣١. يا عصمة اللاّجى الذي
مذ ساد لم يذكر عصامُ
32. Your aid against adversity,
Is unmatched, no clouds can compete,
٣٢. أربى نداك على الغما
م فما يساجله الغمامُ
33. And your sweetness has excelled,
Over its composure Syria,
٣٣. ورست حلومك فاستخف
ف على رزانته شامُ
34. So it has become, going and returning,
Aligned with the days of your eternal rule.
٣٤. فغدا وراح محالفا
أيام دولتك الدوامُ
