1. What you see of her under the veil
Is like the summer moon on a spear pole

2. She glanced with the eye of the weak

Like a rose in its decline yet refusing to bend

Nor would a glance intend to fight

God has brought together those divided

13. It is not my restoration to gain Egypt and the valley
Of Ash'ar, fertile for those who seek gain

14. By the road, wilderness, and valley
Are places I'd ransom with places

15. Abu Bakr and this generosity
Rising high while this rushes forth

16. The right hand of Ash'ar, daughter of Kahlân
Whose efforts exhausted every moment

17. Ordering and forbidding, obeyed, though many
An order I have seen disobeyed

18. He puts the ruse in the place of remedy
And puts craft in the place of genuine work

19. From Bilâl son of Burdah he inherited glory
And from Tubba` and he of Kalla`

20. From the tall spears no land remains
That their mention has not scented

21. S`ûd befriended him since he was a child
So he and Sa`d are brothers by suckling

22. And the rider of the camel train sang his praises
As did the captain of the sailed ship

23. Do not compare him to others in poetic rhyme
The beasts of the forest are not like the predators

24. Do not call an equal for al-Mu`aybidî
The position of a star cannot be reached with poles

25. They soaked his `ûd-wood, so they found it a spring
That makes the wolves fall down in the skirmish

26. What can my tongue say about him
Like the son of Yâmân on the day he got the goods

27. Your words are jewels and you, by my life
Are the jewel of origin, jewel-like in nature

28. It is not grace, that we visit you, and you give
True grace is the grace of renunciation
