1. Oh how I wish I knew what the loved ones did
Did they camp at the sand dune of sorrow or did they leave?

2. And I wish I knew if that group is still together
Like my pact with them and that rope still tied

3. If they went far, in my heart they came close
Or if they traveled, they resided in my ribs

4. I will visit them after a day once
The years have passed and boredom appeared from them

5. I kept my pact with them while the people did not keep theirs
I asked about their condition while the people did not ask

6. For them I stayed up while for others they stayed up
I was busy with them while with others they were busy

7. I and them are like Al-A'sha and his band
And his saying amongst the people of Hijaz an example

8. I tied her to show off while another tied her leg
Another man and he tied another, that man

9. Maybe the nights will show kindness from their harshness
Out of sympathy, for the nights for mankind revolve

10. Oh People of Zainab, my poverty does not last nor
Your wealth, but I see conditions change

11. How many dried riverbeds which the Nile embraced
And how many barren lands the pouring rains watered

12. By God I did not deny a favor
Nor rejected those who did good what they did

13. Nor disbelieved an act of their acts
Nor blamed what first they did and what they spent

14. Nor kept me from the honored summit lack
Nor discouraged me from generosity stinginess

15. Nor underestimated what they said and what they memorized
Nor cut off the hand of righteousness which they connected

16. The harshness of days increases my gentle praise
Like a moist scarf where fire is lit

17. And how can I reject the exceptional merit
Of my elder with it the horizons and paths testify

18. And I do not deny elders when asked
They gave even if long what they gave and what was asked

19. Since I was, they never veiled knowledge from me
A day, nor drank without me nor ate

20. A family like stars of Temu their lights
In the darkness of night are lit

21. Do not compare them in their merit an example
For the likes of them in virtue in the wilds are not exemplified

22. None resemble them in merit from anyone
From the wilderness except the prophets the messengers

23. For me from the world's trials for them are shades
And from those in the hereafter for me are shades

24. If I say they are to me, O clouds of their generosity
Upon me in generosity, I would err and it would flow

25. No youth since they favored me pure affection
By God for me from it no fade nor boredom

26. And from my father Ahmad in my abode bounty
I praised wherever the camels went

27. I never visited him except I found comfort
In my abode connected before I arrived

28. Muhammad son of Hussein the lenient his lineage
And bees from him by my life produce honey

29. With Jumayla how lengthy you are as noble
Prey with Ahmad, ignorance does not muddle

30. I hoped in you for what I was accustomed to
Zaid, and in you by my life hope proves true

31. You remain in bounty, no rain threatened
Nor crescent passed, nor mountain treaded
