1. The fragrance of the flowers and the softness of the branches
Are cheaper than every tear I have held back

2. And he who blames me for my blame, blames me

And the languor of his gaze is nothing but seduction

Cut out the hearts of refined people

11. How are his mole and beauty marks alike?
Sorrow has divided you between them

12. Looking, trembling, with eyelashes wherein quivers an eyelash
With narcissi around, noon after noon

13. O guide of the living, tell us
Where did the travelling camels take lodging?

14. They have made me lonely after intimacy and they
Betrayed me, and I did not betray the trust

15. As for you, O architect, with smooth plasterwork
Like the coolness of springs, well-fed

16. Meet the Syrian pole-star, you have not failed
Nor hopes of you been lost

17. For in comfort, should you visit it
Comfort from its rain the clouds alone can give

18. When will Isa al-Namiri return to
An abode whose land and inhabitants are sublime?

19. Where Abu Yahya and Yahya his son
The excellent father and excellent son

20. Where there is generosity, villages, canals
And tents - the most excellent tents

21. And coaches with elegant carriages
And ships - the best ships

22. The green plain, nay the white comfort
Where even the dispossessed are rich

23. The leader exerting, the excellent glorified
All bear witness for him

24. Who provides quarters for the guest, quarters for the sword
However much battles of allies rage

25. He who fills the hearts of the people if they fight
And if he makes peace, fills their eyes

26. You have not seen me praise a ruddy moon
By which men were guided before him

27. And a horseman tracing his lineage to Hashim
A people who are loyalty and pillars

28. A client of the House of Zahra, of their pride
Who can take pride however much the proud boast

29. Of the people of Tasm and Yasim, nay
Of the people of Praise, Sanctity and the letter noon

30. They are the party of God on earth, nay
They are the people who shall prevail

31. I swear there has been none like Isa, nor
One resembling Isa in times to come

32. Nor are the Pleiades like the earth
Nor the path of Praise like playing

33. Praise is from his gain, and eulogy
And the fortress from his gift and fortresses

34. When news of him in my town came to me
Talk - and not the talk of heavy clouds

35. I set out in this caravan - the living life -
It rains and people seek refuge in it

36. And how many men pursued others!
I said, "I shall not worship what you worship"

37. I prepared my mount in the abode of wealth
While they all circle in an orbit

38. Woe! O Abu Yahya, answer the call
Of a poet upon whom years have passed

39. Had it been an Ahostal or Gharwal they addressed
It would be said, "this is a day they do not speak"

40. The generous, tolerant man is not like one
Whose palm is calloused, nor the swift like the slow

41. In brief, I have made their eulogies sufficient
And so they are busy enjoying the fruits

42. And I have an outstanding debt to your generosity
Steps and two cups, the settling of debts

43. Eulogies from before when we met
Which poets recite in praise of you

44. He who avoids blame and does good
They are in a well-watered garden

45. Still, in comfort I have comfort
That pours like rain and abundant rain
