Your substitute, if there be peace with those you fight

3. And do not carry in your bosom a scorpion
To make it good through kindness, for nature prevails

4. For he who pursues the stumble of a friend
Will find it, and will have no companion forever

5. And whoever listens to slanderers among his loved ones
Will have no side left untouched for him

6. While we are your kin though our homes are far
Yet how many live nearby, but remain distant
