Than their fine steeds and more rightly guided than their stallions

7. Its rock inspired in it determination
From the children of Radwa and Thahlan who built it

8. And the stillness of the wilderness in its awe
Bared the soul and clothed it with light

9. Many a breast wherein patience vied
With every far-reaching desert

10. And dunes that barrenness sprouted in them
The glory of despair, never did its springs run dry

11. It refused oppression, never extending
A hand to the comfortable, nor forgiving their sin

12. It preserves its honor, gleaming unsullied
While to the penniless its villages are lavished

13. Nations, if wealth perishes, verily
Their reputation dissolved if touched

14. It echoed its poems, the morning sun
And the night lamp when it recited them

15. A sign of God's breath, and if
Oblivion had a palm it would not have erased it

16. A garden nicknamed "the Word"
That shames beauty when beauty beholds it

17. Many a wise man endowed with wisdom while young
And a maiden filled with rhetoric her mouth

18. It unleashes aphorisms wandering freely
Not caring wherever its path may lead

19. Stop at the ruins and recall a nation
Whose eulogized weeping is immortalized

20. God sent with it the light of guidance
From Quraish, so He chose it and chose it

21. The dawn rose over the world through it
After darkness had long loomed over the world

22. And in the land burst forth a wellspring of guidance
After the heat of its fervor had scorched it

23. It adorned eloquence with holy pearls
So it beautified it beyond its own beauty

24. And an Hashimite rhetoric, if it were to hurl
At the summits of eras, their heights would collapse

25. Arrows of seasoned words that fought
In God's cause and God supported it

26. Whenever it was called out in good faith
Provoking, the wasteland echoed its challenge

27. Poetry falsely claims that
Were rhyme to turn away from it, it would have told it

28. The Qur’ān descended in the letter D, so had
There been naught but it, it would have sufficed

29. It suffices that it has depicted from its verses
Stupendous marvels, too lofty to be attained

30. And the clan of Marwan belongs to God, they are
The pillars of eloquence and guardians of its sanctuary

31. Many a eulogy they have which a
Pearl’s oyster would wish had been its reciter

32. Sermons that made their pulpit quake
Casting fright unto whoever it pelts

33. Ask Abū Hazrah about their rhymes
And ask Al-Akhtal how he innovated them

34. Roam Baghdad and ask its relics
What secret have its lips concealed

35. Every monument that has marked an epitome
As if speech flowed through it, it would have narrated it

36. The world walked to it cautiously
Fearing Baghdad's wrath, beseeching its approval

37. And Abul Ma’mūn in a kingdom
That dares doom to outpace its locales

38. The daughter of Quraish reached a pinnacle
Through the Abbasids, steep was its climb

39. Among poetry like flowers of basil
Rain poured over it, quenching it

40. It is fervor that the ages echoed
And ardor that overflowed from the heart of its youth

41. And sciences translated and derived
And branches that stunned the world with its arguments

42. Enduring speech turned after them
May God scent their burial grounds and their burial grounds

43. O descendants of Al-‘Abbas in your deathbed
A lesson for existence, realized by one who realized it

44. The light was extinguished and a state declined
And fate folded the days when it folded it

45. Hulagu assaulted its pillars
An assault like wolves glimpsed its elders

Whenever it feeds them, it intensifies their harm

51. Oppression eradicated the relics of guidance
How can a nation survive when it has lost its navigator?

52. Eloquence migrated to a land seeking
Gentle life, fruitful in its valley

53. Remaining in it, experiencing destitution
At times and in times of prosperity

54. Then around it stormed a tempest
Fright mixing its morn with its evening

55. And if a shining star appeared
Its eyes stared at its radiance

56. And if a savior of land loomed
And if the land has donned its defense

57. And if knowledge raised its voice
And if the letter D illuminated its page

58. It chanced upon the long-awaited genius
So it responded to glory when it called it

59. The state of knowledge through him was restored
To Egypt’s throne after its absence lengthened

60. One like Ismael in his virtues
Words run out but his bounty never ends

61. Egypt glimmered with beauty and eminence
Through the father of fine youth and its hills shook

62. Clouds are too shy whenever it weighs
Once between its prominence and its prominence

63. He planted knowledge in Egypt durably
Whenever he nurtures it, its harvest tastes sublime

64. Conventions and world rose with it
And began to envision its most splendid adornment

65. O son of Ismail, O guide of divine law’s nucleus
Through you has Egypt renewed the epoch of its youth

66. Every small remnant of dew, if dispersed
Its meeting point is a heart’s threshold

67. An ambition that erected in Egypt a state
Safeguarded by justice, knowledge and foresight

68. With it Egypt wiped the eye of blindness
After longing had long loomed over Egypt

69. And its stand remained constant
Whenever effort exhausted and impoverished it

70. Wherever you gaze you find revival
Filling the eye and leaning its favor

71. And shining palaces like the morning glow
Reverberating gratitude in Egypt's firmament

72. O champion of knowledge in a kingdom
That with knowledge has reached the horizons of its aims

73. Every day you have a summit of glory
And hands that dazzle the world stunned

74. The daughter of Quraish found a haven
In the expanse of dominion and fortress from its foes

75. The tongue of the Qur’an adorned with honor
As the protector of religion and kingdom has shielded it

76. The wisdom of al-Ma'mun has returned its abode
Through the son of Ismail after being lost

77. The gathering of eloquence gleamed luminously
In the sky of glory, surpassing its zenith

78. It is in Egypt a beacon; whenever
It emanated lights in Egypt, it guided it

79. Basra witnessed in it its heyday
And Baghdad witnessed in it its assembly

80. Who is my envoy to the nomads
Where are the desert-dwellers, where are their encampments?

81. That Egypt has launched its conventions
And Abū al-Fārūq has revived its lexicon

82. And built Ukaz anew today
Bewildered by it, the ages wandered confused

83. Has the love of culture a crown like
The crown of Egypt’s sultan who cherished it?

84. He set authorship aright from its regression
Quenching dreams with integrity, nurturing them

85. How many a book whose chronicles
Recorded a blessing that a heart initiated

86. The beacons traveled westwards to
A dominion whose knowledge illuminates its mark

87. And they saw an abiding kingdom
And a king guided by God shepherding it

88. Rejoice heart of the region, a nation lives
That yesterday was none but you it aspired to

89. And al-Fārūq labeled a shining star
For Egyptians, sign of its ascension
