1. Every day there is a new constitution and system
Not so are the rules and the rulers

2. Twenty years and the homeland is sick
Afflicted with illnesses and epidemics

3. Indeed the doctor knows the disease that
Left the patient melting with pain

4. And sometimes the doctor deceives his patient
So that the disease returns and he is incurable

5. How can there be healing for Egypt from her diseases?
Or how can her glory and height be hoped for?

6. As you know, the reformers and her people
Are asleep to the roar of the intimidator

7. And if the souls differ in their whims
The writers and pens are miserable

8. O State that raised over our homelands
A flag under which flags bow down

9. Where are the covenants you concluded?
If you ever concluded a covenant

10. You did not heed our pacts so you violated them
O you for whom violating pacts is a sin

11. Twenty years did not satisfy you, and so
The years will come and go after it

12. The stay grew long while you are still you, and would not
Have lingered, had not ignorance from you lingered

13. It lasts, for the ignorant have no permanence
And so determination and resolve will be

14. The land is your land, the sky an ally
To you, and the nights and the land your servants

15. O nation the times have sewn its eyelids
Awake, for dreams have led you to ruin

16. Awake, for no sleeping defender protects holy places
And man is wronged inattentive and oppressed

17. Awake, your sleep is useless while transgression
Around the sanctuary is awake and standing guard

18. Strange is this Nile, how we pollute it
Yet kindness and honour flow enduringly from it

19. If it requited our evil with evil
Those souls would have been destroyed long ago

20. But it is mercy of ancestors and has never ceased
To nurture the wombs of its likes

21. Two things take peoples away both together:
Sleep from the homeland and surrender

22. Unless those who lie asleep arise
Upon them and upon the home be peace
