And her precious guarded right was profaned

7. The hands of havoc blew them away as if
They were meadows’ basil blown by gales

8. Falling one by one, refined and genteel
Smooth of face, beaming and bright

9. The light in their purified blood radiates
And their scent wafts intensely fragrant

10. Alas for the youth whose fate was
A portion of sudden death ready at hand

11. The nation’s treasure was lost by its sons
Mourned by anguish and cries of lament

12. Eulogies for them keep towns and villages sleepless
Riven with wounds beyond what surgeons can suture

13. Neither is the night a true night in its prolonged anxiety
For the departed, nor is the dawn a real dawn

14. They weep for the lads in their prime
With statues and nobleness and ambition

15. Their unblemished past and exemplary stances
Show no shame or stinginess of soul

16. They are war martyrs, though not of its heroes
For us the war, struggle, and fight

17. He inspires so arrows are loosed but not
By archers’ hands, their shafts, or the wind

18. He wields sturdy arms and shoulders so they are
Swords in his hand, spearheads for harm

19. Those pliant bodies inclining to passion
Not for the cause of victory or gain

20. O people, be serious! No life for one who sees
Life as a free gift and jest

21. Shall I remain shaded while the nations are
Subjugated around us and made to kneel?

22. Shall I stay mute while calamities cry out
Dark evils with unremitting clamor?

23. Are we vile sheep to be preyed on
And annihilated by the butcher?

24. Souls find no bliss in their loftiness
Save when specters haunt them

25. Politics respects no flaws in its realm
Dark faces or ugly sins

26. A reputation it rends despite archers behind it
And shameless visage misleading the guided

27. It engenders injustice then pretends
To bring justice to all worlds, a pollinator

28. The rule of Shariah is tangled in its schemes
Though the noble sura and holy verse

29. Its prayer beads and tablets were shamed
Nearly splitting from the length of their torment

30. Increase, angels of civilization—yours
Is a task for you and your luminous age

31. You are lanterns of nations while this
World of darkness was lit up by the lamp

32. The Orient saw its path in life
And walked it, an excellent diligent worker

33. God is greater than those who deny His promise
And think confinement cannot be breached

34. The door of life is guidance from His light
And for one who takes refuge at His door, the key

35. Lord, guide us and unite our leaders’ strength
That we may be spared harm and find rest

36. Shall I remain fallen while misfortunes encircle us
Dark calamities that grant no relief?

37. Your prolonged silence suffices the nations—can it be
Unlawful to say “my country”?

38. Say it, melodious, delicious to the ear
Passing to give life to the valley’s hope

39. Hope slept as you slept, lifelong fellows
Never created for other than stillness

40. Egypt whom you gave life to her people
The living ailing, seldom visited by the hale

41. She calls you a deity and watches—is there
For her a pitying one, savior, or aide?

42. She is destined to endure every awful adversity
And sag under shackles and irons

43. Passions persist in their independence
Until the rebel takes it by force

44. Woe to those who missed the path and hopes
With no counselor, guide, or leader

45. They dashed the nation’s hopes and disabled
The faith of jihad when it needed jihad

46. They duped the masses who then frolicked around them
Happily committing harm and corruption

47. They busied themselves with their weddings while their nation
Languished in mourning, grief, and bereavement

48. That treaty they proclaimed at the top of their lungs
In pitiful, heartsick elation and joy

49. Was it not a safe conquest for the people when
Swords rested secure in their sheaths?

50. A nation toppled by mere words, a nation
Plummeting defenseless without an executioner

51. Under it they became the enemy’s kin
Closer in friendship and affection than other nations

52. They protect what we protect and target the same
Enemies and adversaries we strike

53. Were it not for their grit and might
No scent or trace of us would remain

54. Lies echoed by the misguided, empty claims
Cried out by the unaware proclaiming them

55. Have you seen one more foolish than an ignorant fool
Seeking life at the hands of the executioner?

56. O you who described upright life, what
Wisdom or guidance can you see in this?

57. After you the people wander confused
The guide bewildered, the traveler lost

58. When you were its guide, it walked the straight path
Proceeding happily with the best supplies

59. The truth is clear in its features, brilliant
Success radiant in signs far and wide

60. It forgot redemption—no thought passes
Through its mind, no passion stirs in its heart

61. Though sometimes the hour of remembering it
Revives a grieving soul and waters a thirsty heart

62. Have pity—you suffered the heat of exile
In your love of Egypt though we failed to achieve our wish

63. We are your soldiers, building for our nation
Glory with our souls and bodies
