1. You renew mourning for the East with your memory,
And we fulfill it as an obligation for Egypt.

2. We recalled with you the red days of turmoil,
That tear through the clouds of fire or don the blood.

3. On both its sides, from your jihad, lie splendor
That shows you the open dawn grayer and darker.

4. You rushed in its hated flood impetuously,
Confronting the tide of vileness wherever directed.

5. If panic ransacked the abode of a hero,
You would enter, repelling horses from the place of zeal.

6. And you have not ceased to be the fluttering flag, venturesome,
Leading an army of champions noisy and boastful.

7. It threatens us persisting arrogantly
When we see death where glory leaves profit.

8. It is upon us, the bitter protection, to guard our country
And repel the attacking usurper from it.

9. We stay up vigilant, fearing every knocker,
When the people sleep in beds slumbering.

10. Martyr of passion, do you know today one of passion
Whose longing renews a grieving heart?

11. He sees Egypt preferred over her sons with his soul
And over his soul if he is determined and resolute.

12. Look at the faces of the people—how they have changed!
You will not see in them a trace of good.

13. Honor the protectors of the Nile and consult its people.
Is it right they lost reason and felt blindness?

14. The speech of the feeble people is a lie
Who play the role of the disgraced instead of the respected.

15. The youths were alarmed at them from the side of injustice,
Refusing for the matter to be secret and hidden.

16. The fate of the Saxons met its misfortune
A fate from the ungrateful Mayamen sealed.

17. They took the right of the disloyal as a stronghold.
So the enemies have no hope it will be demolished.

18. And they denied anything but expulsion. You will not see
For their raids a goal other than that.

19. Raiders in whom hope of peace is not expected
While in Egypt a transgressor makes the unlawful lawful.

20. I remembered Ali raising his voice calling
To the truth a people who have become divided spoils.

21. The passions jostled him diversely, not leaving
For him a direction if he wanted to advance.

22. He sees death in the call of those speaking in his name.
It mixes with him reluctantly and overwhelms him forcibly.

23. He called him to the covenant—the call of one desiring
God—deeming hesitation a sin.

24. His most loyal neighbor passed away and lived near his Lord,
His highest teacher, so he was the teacher.

25. He institutes love for Egypt from those who have maligned her
And enacts for the people organized jihad.

26. And he recites to them in his sublime prayer niches
A book of daring and might decisive.

27. He saw the sedition of the factions weaken the strength
So he rolled up his sleeves to give it loyal protection.

28. Some men deluded by the vanity of purpose
Wish if they had followed the wiser opinion!

29. He warned them, “Do not feel safe from the people. They
One day make the disloyal have misfortune.”

30. But when after a time they saw him, they regretted
And the deceived will not benefit from regret.

31. For you, from the All-Knowing Witness of the unseen, not an eye or mouth,
Allah wills judgment for one keeping away, watching.

32. He looks upon us from every direction addressing us
And seizes us from every time submitting.

33. Thus the Almighty keeps his life
While time wears out the disgraced stained one.

34. He passed on in full coats of mail triumphant
And was shrouded in his dwelling free honored.

35. The young man of righteousness left no inheritance but fame.
He was not one who made the people a ladder.

36. And we inherited his might and his weapons.
What an inheritance of God’s guidance proper!

37. Come to us! In it is a remainder
For whoever was made destitute of the inheritance of prophets.

38. We were crazed for an Egypt that did not submit to an event deflecting her love
Nor betrayed the honored martyr.
