1. What mischief, what treachery, what lies are these,
The army gathers and the swords are unsheathed,

2. O Bani Nadir, your fortresses will not avail you,
Cease your harm and abandon aggression or be gone,

3. Indeed the slain one was deluded by his rocks,
Thinking the Messenger of God was killed,

4. The courier came with the news racing,
Carried by the mercy of the Holy King Gabriel,

5. How untruthful is the son of Ubayy when he says to you,
Fear not the people, victory is guaranteed,

6. That advice of yours was ill-omened Salam, you misguided them,
Had the counsel of the wise been accepted,

7. Hold back, O Huyayy, does not a warner restrain you,
From what you intended, no reasoning guides you,

8. Neither oaths are true nor, if the allies spoke truth,
Will they avail you, how can idle talk be believed,

9. The fear misled Bani Quraidha,
And the people of Ghatafan wronged them out of greed,

10. The packs have gathered the hissing lions against you,
They are ferocious when the war drums beat,

11. Do you seek the blood of Islam? No judge but the swords
And the matter will be decided by Azrael,

12. Will towers avail the people if fear touches them
From the abode of might, with lofty pillars?

13. They lingered in life and their dwellings wearied them,
All are hateful and after a time become tiresome,

14. Kinanah calls his companion in sorrow,
Deception has faded and some words were misleading,

15. O our people have you seen how those fail you
Who made every promise and hope?

16. Leave the fortresses and depart from your dwellings
Destiny has judged and God's command is executed,

17. The Prophet has judged so there is no other desire
Or request for the people except what he desires,

18. When the judgment is made by his hand
In truth from his Lord, there is no repeal or change,

19. They looked around at the towering homes
With palm trees surrounding and doves moaning,

20. Water flows and ample shade,
Crops linked to crops in its banks,

21. They said: "Will all this go as plunder
To others after us?" Those are superstitions,

22. And they set about demolishing the homes, differing
In them were pickaxes, spades and chisels,

23. In its corners it cried out as recitals
Echo in ears,

24. The soul exclaims and Islam rejoices
While disbelief is confounded with awe,

25. What a sight were the litters walking adorned
While the people atop were black slaves,

26. Honor cast in the sands of homes
And riches and jewels carried in baskets

27. They said: "Departure!" but no learned woman listened
Nor did the melody of poetry carved and polished,

28. The overseer called out, justifying to them
With superstitions that fool the ignorant,

29. "This one who raises and lowers the world
Never! That is shocking and frightening,"

30. Processions of shame, not shy reservedness in them
Nor traces of betrayal unknown,

31. No use are the litters filled with brocade
That change the faces of the people with humiliation,

32. No benefit in bracelets, earrings,
Necklaces, anklets and trinkets,

33. The singing girls tie up their instruments
On the morrow of battle there is no reliance,

34. They pretended, fearing the reproach upon them,
Evil is what those censurers claimed,

35. Why reproach? Were they people of renown?
Rather their dreams deceived them,

36. For them at Khaybar are destined strokes
And forearms, and for destinies there is adjournment,

37. You attained them, O son of Wahb, a gift of victory
Through your grandfather, and the arrogant was humiliated,

38. That is the means, he who takes hold of it
Will not be denied the gifts of God,

39. And you, O son of Umayr, have gained rank
And with God ranks have preference,

40. You rejected the act of Amr when he ventured it
So the soul is wrathful though the wealth is spent,

41. You shot him dead from Bani Qays with an arrow
That walks misfortune so he ended up slain,

42. Was that true, O Amr, or a wild stone
Cast by the liar at the trusted, protected man?
