1. Be gentle, O Uyaynah, with the steeds
And the raging horses and weapons

2. Lower your arrogance and ambition
The Prophet's wealth cannot be plundered

3. Nor is this a day of war or fighting
Do you think they are the knights of men

4. Who rallied with their ships and heights?
And hid, O Uyaynah, for the fight

5. Wrapping turbans upon turbans?
For the horsemen have no fault

6. Hold back! These are camels led
By a single shepherd whose blood is shed

7. What ails those who bore the comrades
You feared their breaking loose would spread

8. Severing you with a crushing blow
Enough! Al-Akwa's valiant, brave son

9. Taste the blazing, raging fire
His arrows made the sparks fly high

10. Thus acts the mighty archer ever nigh
Such are his arrows that never go awry

11. His arm returns mightily to the fray
With an ironclad heart midst the affray

12. Tormenting whether he hits or feints
No matter how the horses evade and jink

13. Though they take wing on the winds
Seek him out but you'll never find his end

14. Retreat and none can match his mend
With what his hands cast he rips and rends

15. So they perish when their strength contends
Bearing wounds upon their wounds

16. He snatched a caravan here and there
And struggled to wear out the horsemen, O dear

17. Wanting pure Camels for the Best of Mankind
And hating that he be harmed in any way

18. Such are the sights of the frank hero of the day
He made them taste affliction without delay

19. And trembling and terror befell their way
Strengths were confined and hopes led astray

20. The palms submitted and the lances gave way
Cast down the coats of mail and the spears

21. O what a cry that echoed far!
Waking the sleepy from their drowse

22. The Prophet heard it and did not pause
The army surged in rage and chaos

23. And the fateful clash of Badr drew nigh
Al-Akhnas the Lion leapt alone

24. Cursing the sinners but not overblown
Seeing no escape from the grasp of Death's hand

25. He gave his soul and kept his solemn vow
Calling his caller alive to bestow

26. This was the dream that the martyr foretold
To the Truthful one and events did unfold

27. He went his blessed path we extol
A noble sight as the swords clashed and rolled

28. Falling amidst the fallen in the wadi of gold
The Prophet's army came, what distress!

29. What fears and heavy cares did oppress
When the standard shook, each heart, nonetheless,

30. Shook with anxiety, grief and stress
So gently O Ibn Zayd with the arrow and bow!

31. They shot and you shot heroes with fiery woes
Wading into the fray on a gloomy day

32. Cleaving their heads, paying any price in life's throes
Sacrificing themselves before losing the battle's throes

33. Thus let the gift of largesse freely flow!
Death came for Ibn Nadlah, does it disappear?

34. Leaving the dreadful news for all to hear?
By your life! His killer has no intercessor

35. A corpse that fell soaked in its blood sincere
Surrounded by it and hastily brought to the bier

36. It is Al-Miqdad if battle is touted
He steps forth fearing naught, unflustered

37. By Abu Qatadah among all the lauded!
Hidden when the steeds and heights are crowded

38. And when it is said, where are the armored?
An arrow hit his radiant face a wonder

39. The Prophet saw him and said: Patience, O yonder!
He healed him drawing out the arrow asunder

40. Casting a blessed breath and mercy asunder
He went about the people healed without blunder

41. From him he gained a treasure forever untold
He gained a prayer of joy and fortune foretold

42. A mercy, guidance, and safety to behold
What he loved and longed for manifold

43. Surpassing all requests and goals
You healed Abu Qatadah of every malady

44. Of burning despair and melancholy
Who stays sleepless, hating the enemy

45. Of Allah's Messenger in holy war, verily
And in the abode of glory and security

46. The people flocked rank after rank
Turning back after resolve and determined crank

47. Though half left, it was as if a thousand, frank
When the chosen Nu'man rejoiced at their flank

48. Not delighting in triumph or attainment, the blessed and blessed again!
The sister returned after despair

49. To the camel in dishevelment and scare
Her woes of captivity and imprisonment were bare

50. And ill-treatment of injustice and impair
At the hands of each vulgar cad and ensnarer

51. She brought the Muslims joy to declare
And the disbelievers, when freed, despair

52. Abu Dharr, release from confinement and careful fare
And often the ripe juicy dates bring welfare

53. Congratulations! Your chest expands without care!
Do you remember when the Messenger said to you

54. Stay, for the inner matter is obscured from view
You know not what tomorrow will ensue

55. You will recognize it and recall what I construe
When the unseen heralds its dawn and debut

56. She came rejoicing saying: My vow is due
If the Messenger permits I will follow it through

57. It is Al-Adhba, I must her slaughter pursue
None but her will heal my soul if I undo

58. Upon me this day after my freedom anew
A vow's fulfillment I have no recourse to eschew

59. And God saved me from evil and harm it is true
To Him be all praise and gratitude

60. For I have been released unfettered and freed
So the Messenger of God said to her avow

61. Evil is its recompense that you should allow
Leave the forbidden vow and forsake it now

62. And fear Allah your Lord, to Him bow
The worst of vows does not His Good please or endow

63. It is not a human's right to disavow
Leave my she-camel be and forego

64. An errant vow no guided soul will foreknow
How can the status of the jurist equate

65. To one foolish or corrupt in his fate?
Thereupon goodly seek it out and forsake

66. Upon your Lord's blessings, be thankful and wake
A God whose decree none can shake or break

67. With praise and thanks my transaction did make
You have spoken truth so earn the reward

68. Increase, O Saad, your glory in accord
You accommodated the fighters at Qard

69. And were to them a brother in kindness outpoured
You sent them dates in plenty hoarded

70. Camels delighted them with their call roared
Your hospitality when they sought their feed

71. And your righteousness their lasting need
Thus you never cease in loyalty to lead

72. And love for the kindred, who truth with blood seeded
Builders of truth, who from building never reneded

73. Though blood over blood has pleated and pleated
Yes, O Saad, raise it to heaven repeated

74. Surpassing all lofty heights completed
The generous raced but were outdone in accolade

75. They never matched you in giving or endowment made
You were most deserving when banners were swayed

76. With gratitude amidst tumults and chaos arrayed
With praise and song your exploits were displayed

77. The Messenger of good returned with each grace
Of character in honesty and advice chaste

78. He compensated for the hero urgent haste
Counseling kindness and pardon embraced

79. While the people were in hardship and ruin faced
Behind the water, obtaining no drop sipped

80. They avoided him when avoidance was prescribed
Yet their hearts were not tested with any slight

81. Even if taken for slaughter and blood rite
The work of one benevolent morn and eve

82. Wears two crowns of thanks and song relieved
Merciful of heart, healing every grief

83. Counting good the greatest conquest achieved
Never ceasing in struggle and strife heaved

84. Upholding truth bastion after bastion, belief
Guarding faith from every demanding ravine,

85. O victory! O healing for the wretched and mean!
Returning with the beloved and companions, I ween,

86. Moving in majesty, all necks to Him lean
Accompanied by the Book's signs, verbs and scenes

87. Chanted in tunes of admonishment keens,
Columns of angels with outstretched wings,

88. Shading Him with feathers of sheen,
Cascading upon the hills and greens.

89. Love the son of Al-Akwa the noble cleans,
Your pride to be his companion betweens,

90. Thus God raises the virtuous demesnes,
And rewards the pious, benign and serenes,

91. Prolong the life of God's camel, ever leans,
And persist, though lightly, she careens,

92. Bearing the best protector of weak and weakly teens,
The fairest that cautions oppression he weans,

93. He protected her and nullified the foolish intervenes,
Confirming his rule magnanimous and far from means,

94. The orphaned camel seeks her deserted terrains,
May you be honored and granted sustenance sans pains,

95. And blessed be your errands and roams and campaigns,
The Messenger of good returned with each compassion,

96. Of character, in honesty and good fashion,
To heal, guide, and guard the faithful nation,

97. With praise and laud your feats and dedication,
