O you who call though none gives ear,

يا أيها الداعي وليس بمسمع

1. O you who call though none gives ear,
Restrain your voice till listening they draw near.

١. يا أَيُّها الداعي وَلَيسَ بِمُسمِعٍ
أَمسِك عَلَيكَ الصَوتَ حَتّى يَسمَعوا

2. They know the truth; make you straight the path for others;
If such advice some benefit will confer.

٢. هُم يَعرِفونَ الحَقَّ فَاِنصَح غَيرَهُم
إِن كانَ هَذا النُصحُ مِمّا يَنفَعُ

3. On you the land's affairs depend, on you
In grave events its issues will devolve.

٣. أَعَلَيكَ في أَمرِ البِلادِ مُعَوَّلٌ
وَإِلَيكَ في جِدِّ الحَوادِثِ مَرجِعُ

4. With patience meet whate'er therein may chance,
With arguments that can be set aside by none.

٤. هَوِّن عَلَيكَ فَفي البِلادِ مَدارِهٌ
تُدلي بِحُجَّتِها الَّتي لا تُدفَعُ

5. Seek not their voices to restrain whose wont
Is enmity; by other means are voices quelled.

٥. لا تَمنَعَنَّ مِنَ العَدُوِّ ذِمارَها
إِنَّ الذِمارَ بِغَيرِ بأسِكَ يُمنَعُ

6. Better than friend is enemy in spirit high,
Nobler in soul, and loftier in renown.

٦. إِنَّ العَدُوَّ أَحَبُّ مِمَّن تَصطَفي
وَأَجَلُّ شَأناً في النُفوسِ وَأَرفَعُ

7. They who rebelled know well that ne'er to them
Will freemen yield obedience, bow the neck.

٧. لا يَجهَلُ القَومُ الَّذينَ تَمَرَدّوا
أَنَّ الرِقابَ لِحُكمِهِم لا تَخضَعُ

8. No friends are they, nor seek we in their stead
Whom for our friends we chose ere bonds were loosed.

٨. لَيسوا لَنا أَهلاً وَلَسنا نَبتَغي
بَدَلاً بِأَهلينا الَّذينَ تَمَزَّعوا

9. Our humble brethren draw us unto them,
One creed we share, one flag above us waves.

٩. إِخواننا الأَدنَونَ يُلحِقُنا بِهِم
عَلَمٌ يُظَلِّلُنا وَدينٌ يَجمَعُ

10. Time, who has wrought this trouble, will again
Unite us, and the pact for which we hope

١٠. سَيَلفُّنا الزَمَنُ المُفَرِّقُ بَينَنا
وَيَضُمُّنا العَهدُ الَّذي نَتَوَقَّعُ

11. Annul these transient days of bitter woe
And griefs encounterd in our mortal lot.

١١. فَتَزول أَيّامُ النُحوسِ وَتَنقَضي
مِن حادِثاتِ الدَهرِ ما نَتَجَرَّعُ

12. For knowing well man's soul craves after calm,
Events of high import stir it to its depths.

١٢. إِنَّ النُفوسَ عَلى جَلالِ سُكونِها
لَتَجيشُ لِلحَدثِ الجَليلِ وَتَفزَعُ

13. A people, howsoe'er in pain endured,
Must feel at length anguish they cannot bear.

١٣. وَالشَعبُ ما حَمَلَ البَلاءَ فَإِنَّهُ
مَهما تَجَلَّدَ لا مَحالَةَ يَجزَعُ
