1. The guide proclaimed and the caravan of the Nile marched on

2. The roads are auspicious and the riders attentive
Throwing their glances into Gabriel's hands

As the hissing serpent protects the glory of the dunes

11. Their banners plunge as the ostrich feather sways
At the head of an unassailable towering form

12. They pledged glory entire to us
And glory for the free is the finest booty

13. The postman carried his letter as though

15. Life with people is a trust from God
Losing it is no small matter

16. I see reward in fulfilling this right
Protecting it like one bearing responsibility

17. Injustice—its ride is passion, its path
Tyranny of an oppressor, weakness of an ignorant one

18. A sin some fools partly lean toward
Of every outsider in life, an intruder

19. He who made nations glorious
Made torture the recompense of every disgraced one

20. Unite, O Kinana, and gather
The ranks of free souls and minds

21. You are the outstanding sons of Syria—what
The Creator brought for their glory can have no equal

22. The best of lands in earth and most generous in hand
Were made for the most honorable people and tribe

23. Do not let oppressed Egypt feel distress nor be
For those in anguish a cure for anguish

24. May God protect it and preserve its existence
With those well-trained in combat—intrepid heroes

25. When protectors lied in a witnessed battle
They proved true to it with some youths and elders

26. With each magnanimous soul risking itself
The clan avariciously hoards dinars

27. Freeing the priceless soul, he counts as part of his faith
And sees as glory of forebear and honor of descendant

28. In the prime of youth and in old age he protects it
And preserves it for generations after generations

29. No covenant of nobility and honesty of manhood
Like the covenant of lies and deception

30. If only the enlightened instituted creeds altogether
Shattering doubts with an accepted doctrine

31. But whenever the truthful supported truths
The ignorant one stumbled with a rejected claim

32. He overwhelms endeavor out of impossibility with one covered in gashes
His wounds still bleeding as he takes cover behind a casualty

33. The horsemen stormed the troops—you see naught
But remnants behind remnants in retreat

34. Paralysis upon paralysis as their chicks are frightened away
Blood flows upon spilled blood

35. Truth fells every stubbornly unjust one
And every trained deceiver retreats defeated

36. Your Lord’s fleet is for battle and His troops—
If the army and navy charge, their charge is firmest

37. By God, if the marksmen were active, battalions
That make battalions fall before Israfel’s hand

38. Can disobedient states devise any trick
If your Lord says to the angel: Be gone!

39. A people hostage to injustice and tyranny must not despair of release
However long the term and shackled the fetters

40. Neither the fading East nor enlightened ages
Have abandoned it—ages of fear and retreat

41. Who can hold back the coming flood raised by Ali
Seeking shelters for it and channels?

42. The heavens indeed have poured out their mercies
Watering the horizons after long deprivation

43. And when people cry out for their supporters
God is the noblest supporter and guarantor
