1. Let the people not forget their martyr
Who cared for Egypt as if it were his own

2. What memories can you renew of a perceptive man
Whose character is the Nile and remembrance eternal

3. Advance, O archers, around his banner
An army of truth whose shots God guides

4. Onward quickly following your leader
For this is his command to you

5. He established struggle to protect a homeland
And mourning when loss engulfed it

6. A day when chaos wracked it with torment
Afflicting the feeble as agony spread

7. He hurled words eastwards whose power
Made the west quake, fearing their ferocity

8. If the Nile is alarmed or dismayed
Then its kingdoms will fall into ruin and decay

9. Leaders of people and nations
Are God's mercy upon the world and its grace

10. A soul whose lofty principles the horizon protected
And God chose from the finest of his gifts

11. A will like that of prophets, no disgrace corrupts
Nor wealth nor status makes it stray

12. No ruler smitten with love of the world
Has survived its temptations and decay

13. To recount the martyr and tally his stances
Among the living, enumerating his virtues

14. Be for Egypt an undimmed life
And teach struggle to a people who scorned resolve

15. The unworthy thought countries easy prey
And dragged the people into what their nature rejects

16. They exploited them for an end unknown
And so were ruined those drawn into their trap

17. Then the haze lifted, revealing horrors
Worse than death when encountered

18. Think not a matter is what appearances suggest
For the truth it hides is what defines its shape

19. Clemency and kindness to a people whose waters
Have turned bitter, harsh words will only chafe

20. We fear the gloating of critics against us
One party blames, another has strayed from the path

21. Enmity fills our valley and we suffer
The agony of discord and its consequences

22. We were ignorant and hatred shattered our unity
Allowing rivals to seize what they hoped

23. God is greatest! Today we defeat
Afflictions we dreaded from those who fear Him not

24. The martyr reached out to the parties to unite them
Calling from the side of his grave, left and right

25. He sent forth his voice counseling virtue so
Wounded Egypt sought remedy in his call

26. Will heedless people hear counsel
Or are they deaf, unable to comprehend?

27. Today the guide sees his destination
And the lost bewildered knows his trail
