1. Should your complaints ever cease that fate
Still rages, nursing vengeance, anger, hate?

2. What dignity or grace does freedom own
That can accept dishonor and be prone?

3. The stricken one is stricken. Let him be.
On him the bolts of destiny agree.

4. Don't let our present state your mind engage.
We were created noble, wise, and sage.

5. We scorn submission, spurn humiliation.
Unbroken is our soul's determination.

6. With lofty souls we meet adversity,
Each dire event with proud nobility.

7. To seek the aid of kings we’re most averse;
To beg from tyrants we think curse on curse.

8. Their whims we blame; their tyranny dispute.
As servants to their people we impute.

9. False gods and graven images are made
By what your Lord creates and fashions staid.

10. Eyes are cast down when viewing their display-
Their gaudy thrones and pomp in rich array.

11. Tarry awhile, O zealots of the dusty clan!
Truth's highway now unrolls its caravan.

12. Their judges question, drawn without their veil,
On thrones encircling them like fates grown pale.

13. Can they arrest death's herald when he hies
Or own their seats until the end of time?

14. To One alone belong majesty and might,
Eternal, matchless in His peerless height!

15. By other than His writ we ne'er obey
A judgment or give other hands the sway.

16. Kings we disobey when they His word forget.
His righteous lore we love, His Law is set.

17. His party thrives; His sect we raise aloft.
Next to His Prophet we revere His craft.

18. His creed we cherish and, His will once known,
Among His kin we love, among them frown.

19. The shining light proclaims what we desire.
Clear verses from the Book our wants require.

20. This age with guidance filled, with wisdom graced,
Mankind with mercy blessed, and peace embraced.

21. By him the trusted one was sent to guide.
God's clear covenant was pact and tie.

22. Endless be Ahmed's glory! Who can claim
Achievements that exhaust time's endless frame?

23. His rising structure fears no mortal shock.
No hands can tear his building's corners, rock!

24. God made its columns safe, its place secured,
Unshaken through all days, by God assured!

25. The lofty seats it shatters and casts down.
At God's command they crumble, overthrown!

26. Where noble columns stood, behold it now!
Scarce can you recognize the footsteps' plow!

27. Trampled by invaders' heels, sometimes the low
Trample what late the exalted feared to know!

28. A host advanced; to them Gabriel unveiled.
The Prophet marched; they conquered, never failed!

29. Each true believer their swift swords impaled.
Who worshiped God they slew, then prayed and hailed.

30. Gardens of Eden were their swords' sharp force.
Those were their lodgings and their camping source!

31. They raced to Paradise's lofty seat.
They gained its blessings, lived in joy's retreat!

32. Behind them fires flamed up and they were eyed.
Ahead fair gardens spread their gates wide.

33. No weakness owned they when thick arrows flew.
They scorned surrender, knew not what to do!

34. God's good pleasure was all their burning aim
Who bore the burden of the sacred claim.

35. By their sharp swords they raised religion's name.
Without their mighty arms it had not came!

36. Where battle joined, where raged its fury wild,
Where blood poured forth, blood of the undefiled,

37. Where dead lay heaped, were harvesting fields,
Walls raised by them the darting arrow shields.

38. Only when built of blood and bones stand fast
Battlements shaking spears attack and blast!

39. Without their leaders people cannot tell
The rights and wrongs that in the nations dwell!

40. In every battle raging uncontrolled
That clangs with changing fate or warriors bold
