1. The leader of messengers and mother of the faithful
Bring good tidings to the heroes of manifest victory

To protect the hopeful and aid the reliant

3. Truth triumphs and His command is fulfilled
Though every deceitful villain casts it down

4. Be patient, a great matter comes surely
O daughter of the truthful, world of the righteous

5. Have you seen the earth shake
When your necklace fell, though you did not feel it

6. It shuddered and wished the high peaks
Of its foundations would fall, though rooted

7. You seek it, preoccupied as it is
With worry, grief and moaning

8. The affliction will show its horror soon
So wait, daughter, until the time comes

9. They raised the litter thinking she was in it
And marched on in the night

10. The night cleared away from the affliction
That dawn had left frowning

11. Where has she gone, on what land alighted
How confusing is the matter, is there one explaining

12. O Messenger of God, be patient, she is
Under God's protection, Lord of all beings

13. O Abu Bakr, gently, we will see her
In the sanctuary of the Trusted Spirit

14. She returned while night cloaked
Ever darkening like a reverent elder

15. The army left and night fell, leaving her
With no echoes from the sorrowful valley

16. Thoughts rose from her breath
Thoughts of endless sorrow

17. It stormed like an ocean, its depths seething
Its terrors swirling around the ship

18. Her worries slept when she lay down
Though suppressed and hidden within

19. Safwan came but could see
Nothing but a vague presence

20. He glanced about and walked toward her
With the gait of a doubter, gentle and slow

21. He recognized the spot, how true
When he called, a call of the desperate

22. A call that rang - if told "Listen!"
We'd hear today the echo's refrain

23. It woke Aisha from her sleep
Like the call to prayer stirs her

24. She recoiled and covered her face
Veiled by reason and faith

And upon God lies requital of corrupters

30. Falsehood of fools and lies of rabble-rousers
Will not diminish the Truth's authority

31. What an immoral gang, provoked
By the elder of the immoral

32. They found in him a cunning leader
And a skilled imam for slanderers

33. This is how it is, son of Ubayy, this is how
Your way should not be the way of Muslims

34. Unleash venom and stir up strife
Whose fires burn those who kindle it

35. O daughter of the truthful, be patient - would that
Were the pain of the sick and worry of the anxious

36. What an illness! If only you knew
It is worse than your complaints

37. The Prophet was gloomy, strangely so
In a way you would not accept

38. How could this be? Not his custom
How could this be! What criminals!

39. They changed him, he turned away his kindness
And folded up the gentleness you know

40. Yet he hides for you what will not fade
Of pure love, yearning and affection

41. He locks up feeling, how much rapture
For you, O mother, lies in secret captivity

42. Listen, the night is listening, listen
Affliction has come, what will you do

43. The soul seethed and dread flooded in
Leaving no still corner in the heart

44. Mistah - no eye rested on him
She cursed him like fire terrifies the roasted

45. A stumble from his mother exposed him
See the scheming of your closest kin

46. Do not blame her for her anger
She knows what you do not know

47. With one invitation she sent him away
Would that she had added a hundred more!

48. Damn the cunning fox, how vile
Call him Badr and lay waste to the burrows!

49. She returned in the midst of her worries
To a sleepless night with the slumbering

50. Yearning pain mixed with sickness
In youthful tears, scalding hot

51. O Messenger of God, do you permit me
My home is ruined by my misfortune

52. Order me, and let me leave my worries
If I have your permission, best of rulers

53. Patience and resolve showed their beauty and then folded
And I see the sickness remaining, with no end

54. He said, "whatever you wish, come and do
For you my companion whatever you prefer"

55. She went, saddened not to be
One fate had swept away in the departed

56. Then weeping she said "How strange
O Mother, what do you conceal from me?

57. Why did you not tell me their claims?
Damn them! My wits against the accusers!"

58. They wronged me, showed no respect
My Lord, be for me the fairest of judges

59. The truthful one despaired at the disgrace
It is shocking even to the noblest man

60. He said "Alas for you, what a calamity
We've never been tarnished, throughout the years

61. When the faith of guidance adorned us
No talk from you but virtue was seen"

62. How could this be? What a thunderbolt
Sent from the mouth of the best messenger!

63. How could this be? How could this? Whenever
Came "God is the Protector of the steadfast"

64. Be patient, mistress of the necklace
That gained beauty from your radiant eyes

65. Pain at Ali's hand overwhelmed her
Expected from early stubborn ones

66. He unleashed beating on his lady
What secret could she have for the beaters?

67. She swore sincerely, knew nothing
But what disproves the dreamers' claim

68. Piety and righteousness crown them both
Did the highest angels see better crowns?

69. Welcome to the Truth whose soldiers protect
Against transgressors profaning its sanctity

70. Welcome to Revelation, clearing what
Doubts' darkness obscured of certainty's light

71. Welcome to the Spirit, pouring from the Most High
God's mercy giving relief to believers

72. An ordeal blazed but when unveiled
They drew near in thanks and walked rightly

73. The leader's darkness cleared, no more
Suspicion clouding or doubt misleading

74. O daughter of the truthful, be well and enjoy
That is the judgment of the Best of Judges

75. The people were struck with humiliating defeat
From its battlefields they retreated

76. Fallen, dust of tyranny's darkness upon them
Shaming the unjust before all witnesses

77. The truthful one withheld his bounty
Rejecting betrayal, warning traitors

78. He denied Mistah his gifts
To see the rights of honorable benefactors

79. He had raised him long but when betrayed
Went to reward him as befits traitors

80. The way of justice, decreed by the Ordainer
The way of mercy between those who have mercy

81. Revelation came, sanctifying her
The Blamer forgave and rancor calmed

82. Let good be your companion if every
Straying rebel refuses, the best companion

83. My Lord is Sublime, every person
Elevated by what they earn, held to account
