١٧. ضاعَت حُقوقُ العالَمينَ فَرَدَّها
وَأَقامَها بِالقِسطِ وَالميزانِ

18. Protecting the weak who spent the night in tranquility.
We pardon though the swords do not yearn,

١٨. ظَلَمَ العَزيزُ فَهَدَّهُ وَأَهانَهُ
وَحَمى الذَليلَ فَباتَ غَيرَ مُهانِ

19. Nor have their breasts swelled with desire for sheaths.
Time has treated us harshly, leaving us

١٩. نَعفو وَما اِشتَفَتِ السُيوفُ وَلا هَفا
بِصُدورِها شَوقٌ إِلى الأَجفانِ

20. Like sheep among the claws of wolves.
They tyrannized the weak, terrifying

٢٠. عَصَفَ الزَمانُ بِنا فَكُنّا بَينَهُم
كَالشاةِ بَينَ مَخالِبِ السِرحانِ

21. Those who spent the night in meekness and security.
They granted the disgraced a disgraced life,

٢١. جاروا عَلى المُستَضعَفينَ وَرَوَّعوا
مَن باتَ في دَعَةٍ وَطيبِ أَمانِ

٢٤. وَلَقَد رَأَيتُ فَما رَأَيتُ كَظالِمٍ
جَمِّ الشَكاةِ وَقاتِلٍ مَنّانِ

وَيَمورُ حَيدَرَةٌ بِكُلِّ عِنانِ

٢٨. خاضَ الحُروبَ فَما تَدافَعَ لُجُّها
إِلّا تَدافَعَ فيهِ يَلتَطِمانِ

29. Are scum of the brave bubbling on the surface.
The valiant do not care, when swords clash,

٢٩. يَطفو عَلى ثَبَجِ الدِماءِ إِذا هَوَت
في الهالِكينَ رَواسِبُ الشُجعانِ

30. Which delicacy they are served, or which beauty embraces them.
The bonds of loyalty grow between the loyal,

٣٠. وَيَشُقُّ مُصطَفَقَ العُبابِ إِذا طَغى
يَرمي عُبابَ الشَرِّ وَالطُغيانِ

31. As they cling to the rope of God, seeking refuge in Him.

٣١. ما لِلجُنودِ الباسِلينَ وَإِن عَلَوا
بِجُنودِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ يدانِ

صِدقَ العُهودِ وَصِحَّةَ الإيمانِ

٣٤. السَيفُ إِنجيلُ الهِدايَةِ إِن دَجا
لَيلُ الضَلالِ فَطاحَ بِالعُميانِ

35. And came to you willingly seeking your blessing.
It shook off its chains and the tribes competed,

٣٥. يَجلو عَماياتِ النُفوسِ بِأَسرِها
ما فيهِ مِن عِظَةٍ وَحُسنِ بَيانِ

36. Strutting after effort and travail.
It followed the advice of the tyrant and was betrayed

٣٦. دينُ اليَقينِ لِكُلِّ شَعبٍ جاحِدٍ
سَنَّ العُقوقَ وَدانَ بِالعِصيانِ

37. For an age where it endured his rule and suffered.
Oppression upon oppression and bad governance,

٣٧. قَومٌ إِذا رَفَعوا اللِواءَ فَإِنَّهُ
وَالنَصرُ بَينَ سُيوفِهِم أَخَوانِ

38. Corrupt management and procrastination.
When hearts diverge from their master,

٣٨. ما يَفتِآنِ إِذا الوَغى جَمَعتُهُما
يَتَناجَيانِ بِها وَيَعتنقانِ

39. No strength of bodies can avail him.
Dynasties collapse or stand but not through

٣٩. بَينَ الدَمِ الجاري نَديمَي لذَّةٍ
إن لَذَّتِ الصَهباءُ لِلنُدمانِ

40. Anything but the most secret thoughts.
Do not be fooled by the outward show of one feigning meekness

٤٠. يَنبَتُّ حَبلُ الأَصفِياءِ وَيَنطَوي
وَهُما بِحَبلِ اللَهِ مُعتَصِمانِ

41. Who silenced his complaints and concealed his agony.
If the throne of a tyrant stands firm,

٤١. سَيفُ الخَليفَةِ وَالسُيوفُ كَثيرَةٌ
وَالقَومُ بَينَ تَضارُبٍ وَطِعانِ

42. Its foundations rest upon a volcano.
When a man takes matters into his own hands,

٤٢. ما في القَواضِبِ وَالكَتائِبِ إِن مَضى
وَمَضَيتَ غَيرَ مُفَلَّلٍ وَجَبانِ

43. They slip away and his feet falter.
God saved His religion through a Caliph

٤٣. تُمضيكَ مِنهُ عَزيمَةٌ مِن دونِها
يَقِفُ الزَمانُ وَيَرجُفُ الثَقَلانِ

44. Of pure conscience and true faith.

٤٤. لَمّا أَطَلَّ عَلى الخِلافَةِ كَبَّرَت

زَمَناً تُعالِجُ حُكمَهُ وَتُعاني

٤٧. ظُلمٌ عَلى ظُلمٍ وَسوءُ سِياسَةٍ
وَفَسادُ تَدبيرٍ وَطولُ تَوانِ

48. Two fortresses for Islam, unconquerable.

٤٨. وَإِذا القُلوبُ تَفَرَّقَت عَن مالِكٍ

طاشَت يَداهُ وَزَلَّتِ القَدَمانِ

٥٣. اللَهُ أَدرَكَ دينَهُ بِخَليفَةٍ
بَرِّ السَريرَةِ صادِقِ الإيمانِ

٥٤. أَخَذ السَبيلَ عَلى العَدُوِّ بِقَسوَرٍ
دامي المَكَرِّ مُخَضَّبِ المَيدانِ

55. Shedding blood to erect its pillars.
The blood spilled was the greatest thing they built

٥٥. ريعَت له أُمَمُ النِمالِ وَأَجفَلَت
دُوَلُ الثَعالِبِ مِنهُ وَالذُؤبانِ

56. And the noblest thing they established of monuments.
At the Dardanelles and after it the Peninsula,

٥٦. لَمّا تَرَدَّدَ في فَروقَ زَئيرُهُ
رَجَفَت جِبالُ الصينِ وَاليابانِ

57. The horrors of water and awe of fire.
The shapes of death appeared completely,

٥٧. في مِخلَبَيهِ إِذا الحُصونُ تَهَدَّمَت
حِصنانِ لِلإِسلامِ مُمتَنِعانِ

58. Of varied forms and abundant hues.
Each surges with them while others stand still,

٥٨. جَرَحَ الأُلى صَدَعوا الخِلافَةَ فَاِشتَفى
جُرحانِ في أَحشائِها دَمِيانِ

59. So war rages yet rests in tranquility.
Two fires sparked in the battalions,

٥٩. حَمَلا الهِلالَ عَلى عُبابٍ مِن دَمٍ
الدينُ وَالدُنيا بِهِ غَرِقانِ

60. Two conditions amidst the burning embers.
One overflows from the ships, while the other

٦٠. المُلكُ مُعتَصِمٌ بِهِ مُستَمسِكٌ
مِنهُ بِأَوثَقِ ذِمَّةٍ وَضَمانِ

61. Streams between plains and shepherds.
The sea opens its depths to the warships

٦١. سَيفُ الخِلافَةِ جَرَّبوهُ فَكَشَّفَت
مِنهُ التَجارِبُ عَن أَغَرَّ يَمانِ

62. As they plunge in pairs and alone.
The land’s passions are aflame, nursing

٦٢. خَيرُ الغُزاةِ الفاتِحينَ أَعانَهُ
أَوفى الصِحابِ وَأَكرَمُ الأَخدانِ

63. The bitterness of anger and agony of sorrow.
They laid traps for the enemy, and between them

٦٣. طَلَبوا شَبابَ المُلكِ وَاِحتَسَبوا الفِدى
في اللَهِ مِن شيبٍ وَمِن شُبّانِ

64. Quaked the lover’s passion and the young man’s fervor.
Until cunning took hold of the cunning one,

٦٤. وَسَمَت بِأَركانِ الخِلافَةِ أَنفُسٌ
يَسمو الأَمينُ بِها إِلى رِضوانِ

65. Affliction befell him wherever he turned.
Their souls thirsted for the black drink of death,

٦٥. كانَ الدَمَ المَسفوحَ أَكبَرُ ما بَنوا
وأَجَلُّ ما دَعَموا مِنَ الجُدرانِ

66. And death lapped the thirst of the thirsty.
They drank the red drafts of death, its surge

٦٦. في الدَردَنيلِ وَفي الجَزيرَةِ بَعدَهُ
رُعبُ المِياهِ وَرَوعَةُ النيرانِ

67. Foaming amidst the green meadows and riverbanks.
Torrents casting it as shadows whose darkness

٦٧. بَرَزَت تَماثيلُ المَنِيَّةِ كُلُّها
شَتّى الضُروبِ كَثيرَةَ الأَلوانِ

68. Pours out like the flooding of the deluge.
They ravaged the dreams of invaders, and events

٦٨. كُلٌّ يَموجُ بِها وَكُلٌّ ساكِنٌ
فَالحَربُ في قَلَقٍ وَفي اِطمِئنانِ

69. There stagnated their dreams like statues.
Do the lions in their lairs toss mice

٦٩. نارانِ بَرَّحَ بِالكَتائِبِ مِنهُما
حالانِ في الهَيجاءِ مُختَلِفانِ

70. And the eagle nation throw lizards?
The feeble-minded thought war was frivolous,

٧٠. هَذي تَفيضُ مِنَ البُروجِ وَهَذِهِ
تَنسابُ بَينَ أَباطِحٍ وَرِعانِ

71. Not realizing the price of Turks and Germans.
Two swords never raced to destroy a kingdom

٧١. البحرُ يَفتَحُ لِلبَوارِجِ جَوفَهُ
فَتَغورُ مِن مَثنىً وَمِن وُحدانِ

72. Except the two inevitable moments raced them.
God’s destiny unfolds between their two edges,

٧٢. وَالبَرُّ مُلتَهِبُ الجَوانِحِ مُضمِرٌ
حَنَقَ المَغيظِ وَلَوعَةَ الحَرّانِ

73. And between their two breasts roam the Angels of Death.
Where are the deaths that swim bearing

٧٣. مَدَّ الشِراكَ إِلى العَدُوِّ وَبَينَها
طَرَبُ المَشوقِ وَهِزَّةُ الجَذلانِ

74. The awe of the seas and wrath of the waves?
Ships sank by the whale when it lunged,

٧٤. حَتّى إذا أَخَذَ الدَهاءُ بِلُبِّهِ
أَخَذَ البَلاءُ عَلَيهِ كُلَّ مَكانِ

75. Gliding between whale and crab.
The work of the Most High surpassed minds,

٧٥. ظَمِئَت إِلى وِردِ الأُسودِ نُفوسُهُم
وَالمَوتُ يَنقَعُ غُلَّةَ الظَمآنِ

76. Transcending the realm of powers and possibilities.
They uncovered knowledge from its wraps and attained

٧٦. شَرِبوا المَنايا الحُمرَ يَسطَعُ مَوجُها
بَينَ المُروجِ الخُضرِ وَالغُدرانِ

77. The secret of superiority within it and advantage.
They commanded the elements so the obstinate obeyed,

٧٧. تَرمي بِها لُجَجٌ يَظَلُّ شُواظُها
مُتَدَفِّقاً كَتَدَفُّقِ الطوفانِ

78. The difficult became easy and the far came near.
Death swam at their command in the clouds

٧٨. عَصَفَت بِأَحلامِ الغُزاةِ وَقائِعٌ
رَكَدَت بِأَحلامٍ هُناكَ رِزانِ

79. And death frolicked in the cradle of life.
So people became prey and the worlds a courtyard

٧٩. أَإِلى الأُسودِ الغُلبِ في أَجماتِها
تَرمي شِعابُ البيدِ بِالجِرذانِ

80. For Azrael to freely wander.
They roused the remarkable deaths and were roused by

٨٠. غالوا بِمُلكِ الفاتِحينَ وَأَيقَنوا
أَنَّ النُفوسَ رَخيصَةُ الأَثمانِ

81. The greed of injustice and viciousness of pirates.
Generations were ruined though they were still

٨١. تِلكَ المَصارِعُ ما تَكادُ مَنِيَّةٌ
تَجتازُ جانِبَها بِلا اِستِئذانِ

82. Infants who never knew their wet nurses.
They were alarmed by the sorrows of ages

٨٢. ما الجَيشُ مِن نَصرِ الإِلَهِ وَفَتحِهِ
كَالجَيشِ من فَشَلٍ وَمِن خِذلانِ

83. And maddened by the length of garments and severity of adversities.
They were granted major miracles and were distinguished

٨٣. وَيحَ الأُلى زَعَموا الحُروبَ دُعابَةً
ما غَرَّهُم بِالتُركِ وَالأَلمانِ

84. By the wonders of perfection and excellence of composition.
Its treasuries opened to them with a dye

٨٤. سَيفانِ ما اِستَبَقا مَقاتِلَ دَولَةٍ
إِلّا مَضى الأَجَلانِ يَستَبِقانِ

85. That leaves nations rapidly shifting.
They manipulated realms and peoples with a policy

٨٥. يَجري قَضاءُ اللَهِ في حَدَّيهِما
وَيَجولُ في صَدرَيهِما المَلكانِ

86. That elevated the inanimate over the animate.
They subjected us to both injustices, leaving us

٨٦. أَينَ المَنايا السابِحات حَوامِلاً
فَزَعَ البِحارِ وَرَعدَةَ الخُلجانِ

87. To taste neither the sweetness of life nor the joy of knowledge.
Poverty raises its banners among us

٨٧. غَرَّت جِرايَ فَجاءَها مِن تَحتِها
ما لَم يَكُن لِجِرايَ في الحُسبانِ

88. While ignorance strikes above us with clay.
They gnawed at our money with claws

٨٨. قَدَرٌ جَرى في الماءِ تَحتَ سُكونِهِ
وَجَرى الرَدى فَاِستَرسَلَ القَدَرانِ

89. That consumed Egypt and Sudan’s treasures.
Tax collectors prey on the servants, sparing nothing,

٨٩. سِرُّ المَنِيَّةِ جائِلٌ في جَوفِهِ
كَالروحِ حينَ تَجولُ في الجُثمانِ

90. Not even the most delicate maid or precious slave.
Sustenance is stripped away, along with clothing,

٩٠. سُفُنٌ هَوَت بِالحوتِ حينَ تَبادَرَت
تَنسابُ بَينَ الحوتِ وَالسَرَطانِ

91. And whatever the poor man’s house contained of fleeting possessions.
The money is hoarded in their treasuries while

٩١. صُنعُ الأُلى فاتوا العُقولَ وَجاوَزوا
مَرمى القُوى وَمَواقِعَ الإِمكانِ

92. Hunger kills us without mercy.
You see the leader of the people extending his palm,

٩٢. كَشَفوا عَنِ العِلمِ الغِطاءَ وَأَدرَكوا
سِرَّ التَفَوُّقِ فيهِ وَالرَجَحانِ

93. Begging aid from the charitable.
He who depleted the treasuries sleeps content,

٩٣. مَلَكوا العَناصِرَ فَالعَصِيُّ مُطاوِعٌ
وَالصَعبُ سَهلٌ وَالبَعيدُ مُدانِ

94. While the father of children rests with eyes sealed shut.
The palace floats in bounty while the houses

٩٤. المَوتُ يَسبَحُ في الغِمارِ بِأَمرِهِم
وَالمَوتُ يَمرَحُ في حِمى كيوانِ

95. Witness the death of inhabitants.
Each day, a new tax and special levy

٩٥. فَالناسُ نَهبٌ وَالعَوالِمُ ساحَةٌ
عِزريلُ فيها دائِمُ الجَوَلانِ

96. That terrifies the far and near.
They prohibited our complaining, silencing

٩٦. هاجوا المَنايا الرائِعاتِ وَهاجَهُم
جَشَعُ العِدى وَتَأَلُّبُ القُرصانِ

97. Each mouth and tongue among us.
They shrugged off meekness, but could they shrug off

٩٧. شابَت لَها الأَجيالُ وَهيَ أَجِنَّةٌ
لَم تَدرِ بَعدُ مَراضِعَ الوِلدانِ

98. The agonies from their own hearts?
They grew angry at the free in our homelands,

٩٨. فَزِعَت بِأَحشاءِ الدُهورِ وَغالَها
طولُ الوُثوبِ وَشِدَّةُ النَزَوانِ

99. Content with every fawning traitor.
The worst sins and decadence to them

٩٩. أُوتوا كِبارَ المُعجِزاتِ وَمُيِّزوا
بِرَوائِعِ الإِحكامِ وَالإِتقانِ

100. Are the fragrance of musk and softness of cashmere.
Infidelity altogether loves one’s nation,

١٠٠. جذبوا بِسِرِّ الكيمياءِ عَدُوَّهُم
فَأَطاعَ بَعدَ شَراسَةٍ وَحِرانِ

١٠٦. نُظِمَت فَما اِطَّرَدَ الخَيالُ لِشاعِرٍ
إِلّا بِأَلفاظٍ لَها وَمَعانِ

١٠٧. هَدَّ الكَنائِسَ ما وَعَت جُدرانُها
مِن موبِقاتِ البَغيِ وَالعُدوانِ

١٠٨. اَفَيُؤمِنونَ بِقَولِ بُطرُسَ أَم لَهُم
فيهِ كِتابٌ لِاِبنِ مَريَمَ ثانِ

١٠٩. لَيتَ القُبورَ إِلى العَراءِ نَبَذنَهُ
لِيَرى مَصيرَ المُلكِ رَأيَ عَيانِ

١١٠. مُلكٌ تَأَلَّفَ في عُصورٍ جَمَّةٍ
وَاِنحَلَّ بَينَ دَقائِقٍ وَثَوانِ

١١١. يا آلَ رومانوفَ أَصبَحَ مُلكُكُم
عِظَةَ الشُعوبِ وَعِبرَةَ الأَزمانِ

يَرمي بِها فَيَهُدَّ كُلَّ كِيانِ

١١٥. لا تَجزَعوا لِلمُلكِ بَعدَ ذَهابِهِ
المُلكُ لِلَهِ العَلِيِّ الشانِ

١١٦. سيناءُ تيهي بِالغُزاةِ وَفاخِري
وَاروي الحَديثَ لِسائِرِ الرُكبانِ

117. Witness the death of inhabitants.

١١٧. ماذا بَدا لَكِ مِن أَعاجيبِ الوَغى
وَشَهِدتِ مِن أَسَدٍ وَمِن قِطعانِ

١١٨. ماذا رَأَيتِ مِنَ البَواسِلِ إِذ دَعا
داعي العَوانِ فَطارَ كُلُّ جَنانِ

١١٩. أَرَأَيتِ أَبطالَ الرِجالِ مُشيحَةً
تَلهو بِبيضِ كَواعِبٍ وَغَوانِ

كَطِرازِ مُلكٍ بِاِسمِهِ مُزدانِ

وَرَموا بِآمالٍ إِلَيهِ حِسانِ

١٨٣. فَأَباحَ ما مَنَعَت فَوارِسُ هاشِمٍ
وَحَمَت وُلاةُ البَيتِ من عدنانِ

١٨٤. يا ذا الجَلالَةِ لا سَعِدتَ بِتاجِهِ
مُلكاً سِواكَ بِهِ السَعيدُ الهاني

١٨٥. أَمَلَكتَ ما بَينَ البَقيعِ فَجُدَّةٍ
وَأَبَحتَ جَيشَكَ ما وَراءَ مَعانِ

١٨٦. وَبَصَرتَ بِالوُزراءِ حَولَكَ خُشَّعاً
تُمضي أُمورَ المُلكِ في الإيوانِ

١٨٧. يُجبى إِلَيكَ مِنَ البِلادِ خَراجُها
ما بَينَ ذي سَلَمٍ إِلى عُسفانِ

١٨٨. مُلكٌ أَمَدَّكَ مِن خَزائِنِهِ بِما
أَعيا الجُباةَ وَناءَ بِالخُزّانِ

١٨٩. الجُندُ مَعقودُ اللِواءِ لِفَيصَلٍ
بَينَ الظُبى وَعَوامِلِ المُرّانِ

١٩٠. يَلقى النَبِيَّ مُدَجَّجاً في جُندِهِ
وَبَنو أَبيهِ عَلى اللِواءِ حَوانِ

١٩١. أَيَقودُ جَيشَكَ أَم يَقودُ عُيَينَةٌ
شُمَّ الفَوارِسِ مِن بَني غَطفانِ

١٩٢. سَلَبوا اللِقاحَ وَإِنَّ دينَ مُحَمَّدٍ
لَأَعَزُّ مِن إِبلٍ عَلَيهِ وَضانِ

١٩٣. أَهدى إِلَيكَ مِنَ المَفاخِرِ مِثلَ ما
أَهدى يَزيدُ إِلى بَني شَيبانِ

١٩٤. فَتَحَ الحِجازَ رِمالَهُ وَصُخورَهُ
وَأَتى إِلَيكَ بِرَندِهِ وَالبانِ

١٩٥. اعذُر شُعوبَ المُسلِمينَ إِذا هَفَت
إِنّي أَرى الحَرَمَينِ يَنتَفِضانِ

١٩٦. وَلَئِن جَرَت حَولَ النَبِيِّ عُيونُها
فَلَقَد رَأَت عَينَيهِ تَنهَمِلانِ

١٩٧. تَمحو السُيوفُ وَلِلحَقائِقِ حُكمُها
مُلكَ الخَيالِ وَدَولَةَ الصِبيانِ

١٩٨. ما المُلكُ مِن عِزٍّ وَبَأسٍ صادِقٍ
كَالمُلكِ مِن كَذِبٍ وَمِن بُهتانِ

١٩٩. صونوا بَني الأَعرابِ مِن عَوراتِها
دَعوى لَعَمرِ اللَهِ غَيرَ حَصانِ

٢٠٠. غَشّى عَلى أَبصارِكُم وَقُلوبِكُم
كَاللَيلِ مِن حُجُبٍ وَمِن أَكنانِ

٢٠١. أَنَسيتُمُ الآياتِ بالِغَةً فَما
بِصَحائِفِ التاريخِ مِن نِسيانِ

٢٠٢. التُركُ جُندُ اللَهِ لَولا بَأسُهُم
لَم يَبقَ في الدُنيا مُقيمُ أَذانِ

٢٠٣. خُلَفاؤُهُ الأَبرارُ نَزَّهَ حُبَّهُم
فيهِ وَطَهَّرَهُم مِنَ الأَدرانِ

٢٠٤. لَم يَخذُلوهُ وَلا أَضاعوا حَقَّهُ
في شِدَّةٍ مِن أَمرِهِم وَلَيانِ

٢٠٥. صانوا بِحَدِّ السَيفِ حَوزَةَ مُلكِهِم
وَحِفاظَ كُلِّ مُشَيَّعٍ صَلَتانِ

٢٠٦. يَأتَمُّ فيهِ خَليفَةٌ بِخَليفَةٍ
وَيَزيدُ خاقانٌ عَلى خاقانِ

٢٠٧. بِالمَغرِبَينِ مَمالِكٌ أَودى بِها
عَبَثُ الخَلائِفِ مِن بَني قَحطانِ

٢٠٨. أَودى بِها عَبدُ العَزيزِ وَقَومُهُ
قَومُ الخَليعِ وَشيعَةُ السَكرانِ

٢٠٩. تَشقى رَعِيَّتُهُ وَيَظمَأُ مُلكُهُ
فَيَلوذُ مِنهُ بِناعِمٍ رَيّانِ

٢١٠. ذَعَرَ الجَآذِرَ وَالظِباءَ فَما وَفَت
أَفياءُ مِصرَ وَلا رُبى لُبنانِ

٢١١. مَلِكٌ أَحاطَ بِتاجِهِ وَسَريرِهِ
جَيشُ القِيانِ وَعَسكَرُ الغِلمانِ

٢١٢. تَحمي حِماهُ بِصافِناتِ كُؤوسِها
وَتَصونُهُ بِصَوارِمِ الأَلحانِ

٢١٣. عَصَفَت بِأَندَلُسٍ رِياحُ جَهالَةٍ
مادَت لَها الدُنيا مِنَ الرَجفانِ

٢١٤. صَدَعَت قُوى الإِسلامِ بَينَ مُلوكِها
وَرَمَت بَنيهِ بِأَبرَحِ الأَشجانِ

٢١٥. راحوا يُديرونَ الشِقاقَ وَحَولَهُم
عَينُ المُغيرِ تَدورُ كَالثُعبانِ

٢١٦. يَتَنازَعونَ رِداءَ مُلكٍ مونِقٍ
خَضِلِ الحَواشي مُذهَبِ الأَردانِ

٢١٧. لَبِسَ العَدُوُّ ظِلالَهُ وَتَكَشَّفوا
لِبَني الزَمانِ تَكَشُّفَ العُريانِ

٢١٨. صَدَّ النَبِيُّ مِنَ الحَياءِ بِوَجهِهِ
وَلَوَت أُمَيَّةُ صَفحَةَ الخِزيانِ

٢١٩. وَأَهَلَّ موسى في القُبورِ وَطارِقٌ
يَتَفَجَّعانِ مَعاً وَيَنتَحِبانِ

٢٢٠. خَطبٌ تَباعَدَ حينُهُ وَإِخالُهُ
أَدنى الخُطوبِ وَأَقرَبَ الأَحيانِ

٢٢١. أَبكي وَرُزءُ المُسلِمينَ وَما لَقوا
في العالَمينَ أَشَدُّ ما أَبكاني

٢٢٢. أَبكي لِدامِيَةِ الجَوانِحِ هاجَها
ما هاجَني مِن دائِها وَشَجاني

٢٢٣. الدَهرُ أَندَلُسٌ وَكُلٌّ ذِكرُها
وَعُهودُ سُكّانٍ لَها وَمَغاني

٢٢٤. وَالكائِناتُ قَصيدَةٌ تَروي لَنا
عَنها فُنونَ الوَجدِ وَالتَوَقانِ

٢٢٥. اللَيلُ فيها وَالنَهارُ كَلاهما
بَيتانِ طولَ الدَهرِ يَبتَدِرانِ

٢٢٦. فَهُما رَسولاها إِلى أَهلِ الهَوى
وَهُما الهَوى وَالشَوقُ يَتَّصِلانِ

٢٢٧. مُلكٌ هَوى بَينَ الكُؤوسِ جَنازَةً
وَمَضى عَلى نَعشٍ مِنَ الرَيحانِ
