Meeting its needs, or a sign from Him that's prescribed

7. By the exalted ones, their wounds seemed trivial
So deep are the rifts that cannot be repaired

8. When serious about reclaiming its rights
Misled by the practice of empty lies and play

9. Restraint was shunned and base desires indulged
Its masses awaited a chance for excess and escape

10. Once the reins were seized by the heedless libertines
Songbirds to be caged, or vials brought near and imbibed

11. Indifference reigned as selfish desire was fulfilled
With no other needs, it seemed, left to be sought

12. Teaching that betrayal should be the vessel
When righteousness fails as a means of transport

13. Thus one corrupts the morals of his people
And demolishes what was built by the righteous

Did its hopes not fade, and its tears not flow?

Relics of swords in God’s hands continue to strike

21. The wild beasts settle when their packs are roused
The heavens satisfied when angered and provoked

22. It defends the glory of the faith as faith is scorned
It protects the banner of truth as truth is usurped

23. Guidance has planted its flags in its shades
No path for the misguided misleader’s desires

24. Beacons in the darkness, radiant in the gloom
Rising for the travelers as comets fade from sight

25. We forbade it from exposing itself in dishonor
For its course is upright, well-paved and direct

26. It frustrates the stubborn adversary, who then desists
And thwarts the ambitious clamoring climber’s ascent

27. Fate desires to bait it while it remains vigilant
Tempting it with events while itself alarmed and wary

28. We refuse to see Egypt exposed and shamed
Linked to it, we gain esteem, while it is disparaged

29. Shall we leave it to marauders as prey? We cannot
Our forefathers would reject us if we stayed indifferent

30. Are we the sons of lofty folk who shook the world
And toppled the highest thrones, or are we lying?

31. I see one shun repeating a shameful act
Avoided before his father was even born

32. Come forth, Nile youth! Duty demands
Is it just to enjoy while others toil in pain?

33. Come to the shining light if the path seems murky
Steady the course if tilting and leaning askew

34. Come, protect its glory, be the army it needs
That fears no adversity, refuses to withdraw

35. Build on its morals the foundation of its might
The builder has rested while the destroyer persists

36. I weep for your fallen martyrs, their spilled blood
Sold off cheaply or gifted away as charity

37. Sacrifices made in its holy sanctuaries
With no sinner or criminal in their midst

38. The Nile’s defenders forget days when brought near
Its treasures are lost and the giver deprived

39. I’m shocked - are these offerings of shame?
Blood spilled recklessly? My doubts persist

40. The flocks blamed the hunter for bringing dishonor
The weapon that dripped felt too ashamed to persist

Despairing, complaining of the humiliation and defeat

42. If nations are shocked by such improper conduct
The exalted ones’ betrayal was more shocking still

43. They left hastily like gusts of wind, their glory diminished
Near destruction, unless more righteous and pure

44. So who will rekindle the passions when passions wane?
Who will draw out the tears when sadness grows numb?

45. The tombs of martyrs roar with victims' cries
The mosques roar, those prostrating shudder cold

46. Come forth, Nile youth! Do not recoil in fear!
The caller is vigorous, the rewarder bounds ahead

47. The truth never swerves from its approach
For those seeking ideals, with no escape

48. Respond quickly! The time for mayhem is now!
We dread procrastination and delays

49. When the sword strikes the battalions with its rule
What can shields do? Experts can confirm

50. Nile youth! Do not compare us to others
The plains are not treacherous, the lightnings not false

51. To a nation placing its hopes in you
Whenever a terrible day threatens and looms

52. We know its sacrosanct rights and abstain from harm
It does not blame us, nor we finding fault

53. Those were the flags of jihad, so celebrate!
These were the anthems of the land, so sing aloud!
