Fearsome in war, formidable in combat

7. The arts of war know him as a master
Of the secrets of spears and blades

8. And bear witness that he is the hoped for hero
When archers are driven to their arrows

9. Your shooter, then your executioner, fulfilled
His trust and destroyed others’ families

10. And the killer of ‘Uqbah on the day of Badr
Does he jest when he is killed or care?

11. You wanted to sell him to gain a prize
Steady yourself, your companion is too noble

12. And Sulafa has no equal in merit
To the glorious nature of Majid

13. God protected him from filth and vileness
And evil deeds and actions

14. The martyr of truth, armies guard him
Armored from behind for battle

15. And Abdullah - how did you kill him
And make his companions taste bitter conditions

16. Seekers of money ignite worldly passions
And make a man deviate from seeking the sublime

17. You were content to sell yourselves for a pittance
Of little benefit, of camels and money

18. Khubaib in the hands of a harsh tyrant
Tortured by his heavy chains

19. And Zaid with an obstinate despot
Who pours upon him diverse torments

20. Both their fathers were killed at Badr
So these are the remains of the camel bags

21. Affliction increases them in guidance and knowledge
That events pass away

22. And that every soul has an ending
Though the misguided hope for the impossible

23. For all, a scene of wonders over it
The majesty of truth, blessed be His majesty

24. Death hovers around them and comes
Baring its long fangs

25. And the mention of God continues in succession
From the sacred fragrance that continues

26. That is faith - it strengthens its holder
It shakes the mountains' strength in calamities

27. Congratulations O Khubaib, you have attained
A lofty rank, unobtainable

28. You have filled your hands with noble provision
That came to you without hardship or asking

29. It descended from a Merciful Lord
Generous in giving, abundant in bestowal

30. Eat the heavenly grapes and add to its praise
Praise that lasts the length of nights

31. The Harithiya says: What is with my eye
Is it under a spell, tossing or imagining?

32. I see grapes though there is none of that
In Mecca - what a lesson and woe to me!

33. And what a prisoner you are, we did not know
Of the like of you among the prisoners

34. The time came which they awaited
And here are the swords of the people, sharpened

35. So what is in your right hand, O Khubaib
And what is the matter of the young child?

36. It is as if his mother fears for him
Whispers of madness or foolishness

37. You see Moses in your grasp and he is captive
To slaughter above your thigh and assassination

38. But the noble and forbearing have a custom
Of noble traits and characteristics

39. And what punishment did you fear
When the consequence of death quarreled?

40. You were gracious to your enemy in kindness
And honor despite the narrowness

41. So which of you cast relations
And its nobility with captivity and imprisonment?

42. And which is the slain and who will remain
Alive for later and former generations?

43. Indeed, prayer is the best provision
And the riding beast signals departure

44. Take provision, O Khubaib, and trust in a Lord
For the likes of you, with Him is a good outcome

45. So travel in His evident light and wear
The beauty of eternity in the home of beauty

46. There lies a splendid court of God
Marvelously crafted, beyond imagination

47. Will you be pleased to see the best of creation
Take your place? Evil is that saying!

48. You spoke truthfully Khubaib, you are for calamities
When they miss you, you are of great forbearance

49. You sell for a thorn that hurts a soul
Whose core doubts the high passions

50. So said Zaid the virtuous when
The fools flowed into vileness

51. They killed you crucified and were deceived by it
And by you, the weak of the slaves

52. Your companion in endurance and comfort
And your closeness in advancing and determination

53. Will you both abandon the religion of God in fear?
And who is more deserving of fear and supplication?

54. Refuge with God! Indeed, God is truth
And the criminals are in torment

55. The religion of polytheism is more deserving of avoidance
And more fitting to be discarded and abandoned

56. It is the incurable disease for its seeker
And all evil lies in the incurable disease

57. The perfection of the soul is faith and piety
And what is after the station of perfection?

58. Prisoner of the forty, escape now
You have suffered enough, discarded by the riders

59. Does it please you to remain for lifetimes
With all gathered, tied with ropes?

60. To a Kharqa’a you dislike seeing
Whose love and union repels seekers

61. You clung to her though you did not part
Or make yourself imagine separation

62. A person tires of his companion and is miserable
In his company though you have no boredom

63. And every one with passion and love is consoled
While you over your affliction have no lament

64. You were tested by every ignorant
Deluded from faith, empty of it

65. For you are the greatest proof over them
So disputing and arguing are of no benefit

66. Prepare yourself O Khubaib, aid has come to you
To protect you on its swift steeds

67. It went with you, those resentful of it follow
Far, beyond excuses and delays

68. They demanded him but the demand did not gain
Except disgrace of painful humiliation

69. A group of the people's rabble run
On its tracks, enemies of tombs

70. And when they were about to catch him
He rushed to you, O Lord, dependent

71. And cast the martyr, so the earth hid him
A treasure of rubies

72. He adorns the Muslims when the peoples
Of earth gather, from decline and state

73. It covered a moist body of basil
Upon it the majesty of the revered elder

74. He passed away as if alive, hoped for
For excellent company and family

75. The people turn their eyes confused
As if God is not capable of the impossible

76. And a group who stayed up at night lament
As their wounds overflow after being suppressed

77. God answered his prayer so they perished
And returned like burnt logs

78. O Bani Lahyan, what the son of 'Amr did
And what is with the lions of clawing?

79. You killed his companions and felled him
What vileness and despicable morals!

80. If not for the betrayal, they would not fear you
Do sheep fear the harm of fleas?

81. Were the companions of the right afflicted by you?
For you are the worst companions of the left

82. O Bani Lahyan, how strange is the might
Whose embers have died down after flaming

83. You fled, avoiding death creeping
Upon the towering peaks and hills

84. It is clear disfigurement, so which lion
Is prey for hunters to burrows?

85. Leave the demeaning polytheism to a life
Of Islam and shady protection

86. It is the religion that revives the lands
And reforms their affairs after chaos

87. The light remains in the horizons spreading
And the recitation of Quran a reciter

88. I see nations on the dust, sick
Whose interior is infected with termites

89. Imagining itself the fiercest of God's creation
In weakness, exhaustion and frailty

90. When its sides are filled with echoing
Then let not the rattling of coughing deceive you

91. Bloody fangs for every prey
It worries - and those are teeth of wolves

92. Perplexed, not desiring truth as a path
Nor leaving sin for the lawful

93. Is there a guide who will fix its steps
And cure its sickness after imbalance?
