1. With awe, rhymes grow dim and fall silent,
And speech tilts towards quietude.

2. So this eloquence overflows, for verily,
It overflows with your gushing eloquence.

3. No keen-witted genius,
But you are keener and more ingenious.

4. If poetry wears beauty illuminated,
Fragrant, you are its beauty and elegance.

5. And speech, an attempt at beauty, falters
Until the genius supreme unravels it.

6. You were pleased I lead the masterpieces,
And were pleased with me, so I am guided.

7. My eulogy set out yearningly to you
While paths shone and dwellings were fragrant.

8. You are the vast space wherein strength is wrung
And loyal freemen tested and proven.

9. Delighted were Hassān and Kaʿb, weak
And shackled the poet Al-Jaʿdī.

10. You made them covetous of your endless range,
But you refused, so they retreated, each frustrated.

11. I pardon them, for you are beyond imaginings’ gauge,
Nothing they fancy proves true.

12. You have endured matters that crush souls
And horrify minds into pieces.

13. And paved the way for the despots
Serenely, illuminating and shining.

14. Guidance walks in it, by your hand
The greatest support for guidance, most gentle.

15. Quraysh shuddered: Can one feeble man
Fawning in lineage change their faith?

16. No wealth backs him, nor soldiers mass
Banners or regiments rally to him.

17. He decries idols, while souls around them
Are effaced and crushed.

18. Wealth, inviolable honor,
Pure glory and repute.

19. Lions roar his description,
Horses neigh and warships beam.

20. Truth arrived in its leader’s banner,
And truth is worthier to prevail and most sincere.

21. It hurls the darkness of gloom shining,
Sparks crackling around its brilliance.

22. Bewildered is darkness, no side occludes it,
Light and glare surround and fix on it.

23. Revelation pours and Muhammad’s might
Surges to its goals, beyond reach.

24. Neither feebleness diminishes his strength
Nor hopelessness clings to those tireless resolves.

25. Betrayers abandoned him of allies,
But betrayal is victory for the guided, realized.

26. They claimed harm from what defeats harm,
So ordeal proceeded and truth verified.

27. He resorts to the weak group, but he
Is firmer in struggle and tighter fastened.

28. They are under divine protection a rock
Frustrating plotters and burning embers.

29. They granted their souls to their Lord, generous,
Beyond price from Him, never ransomed.

30. The believers firm on guidance
While earth quakes and summits flutter.

31. Granted certainty, so no coward contends,
Furling wings, nor coward cowering.

32. The Prophet’s soldiers, when they marched, came,
And death startled while battlefields scattered.

33. They split the idolatry under his banner,
So it collapsed and its banner shredded.

34. Verily, He who made the message a mercy
Would not pity blood shed in misguidance.

35. He sent the Messenger as teacher and refiner
To build life anew, beautifully composed.

36. He chooses morals, organizing their excellence
In each erect pillar, harmonizing.

37. Corrupt mores vanished, so he set them right,
Austerity unpardoning and uncreating.

38. Sanctity of precincts, nothing within them
Is injustice, no place confined.

39. It encompasses kingdoms and peoples entire,
Overflowing goodness, those past and remaining.

40. It defined the needs of eras their places,
So each age has its request and elbow room.

41. Its locks barred evils, and nothing within
To good and propriety is shut.

42. It is a refuge for the two worlds’ temporal realm,
If not for schism and desires diverging.

43. The Supreme Reformer completed its system,
Can the foolish boor destroy it?

44. It fulfilled the world despite its chasms,
Hostility toppling it and darkness pernicious.

45. People are chaos in the countries, enticed
By a faith of confusion misleading, spliced.

46. The soul enclosed within its whims
And the mind oppressed, forced and exhausted.

47. They bow to their own handiwork, where is their dignity?
And why do they cling to disgrace?

48. Is it what they elevated, deeming themselves
A people floating above the celestial spheres?

49. Who claims life’s nobility for a people
Disbelieving in Him who grants life and creates?

50. If Mecca rejects the Messenger, it has not rejected
Resolve by which obstacles are demolished and crushed.

51. The tyrants lied, do they shake by killing him
While revelation is a wall and angels a trench?

52. He came to Medina burgeoning, so it
Flowed with streams and plentiful clouds.

53. A hero expanding battlegrounds when
The straitened him, the impasse.

54. He managed events and souls, sometimes
Beheading necks, sometimes gentle.

55. He calls to goodness, but if desire resists,
The bared sword is unsheathed, gleaming.

56. He hurls brave heroes who yearn
For its torrents headlong.

57. He touched thrones, continuously shaking them
A dread circulating and care disquieting.

58. The powers of Islam split defiant in victory,
And kings became humiliated, fawning.

59. No west glows but responds "God is great!"
And an east repeats and magnifies it.

60. This is Muslims’ heritage, some
Cast out openly, some stolen.

61. The defenders failed, one slumbering
Above the mattress, another enraged and fuming.

62. A people deaf to weapons while our people
Cry for help and another growls.

63. If you have a right, then take it by strength,
The weak neglect rights, so they vanish.

64. The swords’ language solves every issue,
So leave talk to an ignorant babbler.

65. And be rational, for not in its words
Are law trampled or order breached.

66. Its letters are steeds and tumult aroused,
As well as fire, blood, and darkness incumbent.

67. I searched between the lines and did not find
That lions ever flaunt their prey as charity!

68. Have you seen the heroes of struggle and what
They reaped? Hopes on the winds’ wings suspended?

69. Despair not of your Lord’s breezes, I see
The radiance through gloom illuminated.
