1. Learn how nations build their glory,
And how resolves march on to their goals.

2. Learn and accept the truthful news
From every man of letters true of tongue.

3. Who speaks, then never ceases lying to you,
Is not like one whose words, when spoken, ne'er betray his pen.

4. For you I'm a poet to be trusted,
Rights upheld and pacts observed through me.

5. Learn, O Sons of Islam, its ways,
Renew what time has wiped of its old prints.

6. God is Greatest! Can His treasures fail?
How come you own so little of them that you prize?

7. Nay, but you're the folk whom delusions wrecked,
And fantasies of ill have fooled.

8. What would you of your ancestors' days?
Is all you have to muster up the word?

9. We're not their sons if what they raised
Of towering glory daily falls apart.

10. Think you of Badr's day, and it reminds you
While grief's the least it brings, and pain.

11. We've paved a path for you to glory and renown
Yet no hand stirs in you, no foot takes stand.

12. A raider roams with troops of devilish thoughts,
A leader who wields neither sword nor flag.

13. Greet the warriors standing, and behold
Their troops massing around you, O my people.

14. Then look again another time, and see
On every side for war the flames a-dance.

15. Salute the angels of goodness led
By Gabriel through the seas of fears that swell,

16. The earth in awe convulses, heaven foams
With rage o'er unbelievers, anger-wrought.

17. They fought God―fear they not His vengeance?
Where angers meet, in the place He swore.

18. Whom truth forsakes is sightless in his blindness,
And firmest of men is he who by truth stands fast.

19. Religion's the faith of guidance; its laws
Gleam white, their brilliant lights emerge from gloom.

20. No flaw wise men detect, nor trait of ill
Clings to it that would raise a doubt or blame.

21. It gives life to souls once they die, uplifts them
When morals fall, and repute goes dark.

22. Nothing's more shaming, harmful than to obey
Caprice, or worship idols made by hands.

23. A faith where both worlds' rights are guarded,
And slave and master in God's eyes are one.

24. Those wretches left its path in reckless error,
And neither creeds nor laws did them avail.

25. The Prophet called and pure hearts answered,
Their glory writ, their fame forever told.

26. Events rushed on no match could challenge,
When resolute, or fiercely pressing through.

27. Death swept them, charging ahead through its channels,
As rushes the torrent, sweeping in its course.

28. God's stalwarts never slumbered, nor their swords
From struggle wearied, nor their toil did tire.

29. Each tyrant it strikes down and breaks in twain
If he in folly thought himself unbreakable.

30. The army storms, the raids rush on,
And struggle flames, though orders are concealed.

31. God made believers one; in war and peace
A rank that nothing shatters or divides.

32. They fell to fate; for ages wrestle-holds,
Where brave stars clash, and destinies collide.

33. To death each victor goes, resolved,
If for God's cause, though death be glorified.

34. They reckon joy when their last drop is spilt,
As though in drunkenness―but sober souls.

35. For truth they thrilled; its taste within them burned,
None taste it, save the man of insight pure.

36. Most wrongful are those who suspect the pure
Of all men, if they show some joyous sign.

37. Long waged the war; when plunged therein
They met but doom, and terrors closed them in.

38. His brother shielded him with sword, the lion-heart,
His lion's might, his awe the bands amazed.

39. What did Abu Bakr think of his dear friend?
That he, the Prophet, was the host's defense or shrine?

40. Who allays our fears when terrors shake our souls,
And whom we call when troubles peak and gloom?

41. Great the event, when thrown by valor's hand
Doesmighty grace descend on it, and fame sublime.

42. He led the bands; his grandeur won their awe
And bowed the stalwarts when they saw his signs.

43. He called; God's heaven roared, and victory's troops
Poured forth, the welkin filled, in order ranged.

44. "Think not of me, for truth is our goal!
You know better those wronged men, their tyrants."

45. Were they destroyed, that wicked mob, no loss
For worshippers of truth, devout and just.

46. Help came; God's faith prevails, its standard raised;
The false faith flees, defeat marks all its steps.

47. Their leaders reaped the evil that they sowed,
And that band of rebels met a woeful end.

48. Ignorance is but loss and shame, O folk,
Souls wasted, agonies encompassing all.

49. And ruins moan in all its dwelling-places.
When the sword was judge, opponent and decider.

50. What met you Abu Jahl, and how see you
Your lord's signs 'mid the folk benighted?

51. Blame and regret avail you naught therein.
Taste the painful doom in your death-beds!

52. Death-beds, when in them, are but fire and heat.
Despair not, and hear what's said to you,

53. Deaf in your tombs beneath the earth and bone.
Idolatry goes bankrupt, Islam smiles

54. Glory to God, His grace and favor ours.
O people, lessons fill history's pages,

55. A truthful tongue, an honest speech its gifts.
To us, in streams of blood that flow across it,

56. It speaks: a sage that life is blood.
