2. Explain the religion of jihad to the ignorant
And interpret the laws of leaders for them

3. The faith of rabbis and the jurisprudence of imams
Have gone, lost at the hands of jurists

4. Those who deny the guardians their loyalty
And prefer the whims of passions

5. Content with worthless lives
With greed and hopes turned to dust

6. Submitting to the will of those who believe
The mighty deserve the weak

7. The knights busy with turmoil
Distracted by losing and profitless trade

8. The market flourishes while Egypt is goods
Struck with painful taking and giving

9. They claimed the nations were sheep
To every tyrant, or a flock of slave girls

10. Going too far, thinking God has broken His promise
While God is above the claims of fools

11. Despairing of destiny, so their souls
Prepare its funeral without hope

12. I eulogize the dead, lighting their graves
And weep for some homes of the living

13. Plunging into dark abysses
Like sunken ships vanishing into gloom

14. I mourn the desolate homeland, if only
I had attained my request or found my cure

15. The tyrants of invaders destroyed its entity
So it fell, such is the crime of fools

16. Call upon Egypt's two martyrs in their graves
Join the echo of your call to my call

17. Call upon the two banners which fate has furled
While the army waits without a banner

18. Destiny came upon Mustafa, so he was hastened
And Ali the valiant knight fell

19. Is it exile that afflicted them?
Each claimant was rewarded with exile

20. Their ambitions never reached long goals
Nor the might of calamities and misfortunes

21. They split the mountains of the two horizons
And shook the nations and settlers of the dunes

22. O Egypt, withdraw your beauty and veil
The power of your charm from the desire of sons

23. They toyed with its sanctity and duty
And rewarded your deed with the worst reward

24. They erred the meaning of love and claimed
The skill of trustees and wisdom of sages

25. I feel longing for you is the comfort of one in anguish
And find their affection painfully cold

26. Those two who sipped the pure wine of love have gone
Leaving no solace for hidden torment

27. Except needles of your painful love
They knew chivalry and manliness

28. And love as a protected refuge and loyalty in affliction
Not the nature of misers you see in lovers

29. If you are granted sincerity among lovers
The self is a trivial sacrifice

30. The companions hurried away, intent on parting
After closeness, far from intimacy

31. Created for the intention of a moment
And long separation, though we thought

32. They were created for lasting company
Suspicions ignorantly followed their steeds

33. Falling from fatigue and excessive blindness
Neither lightning tells where they went

34. Nor do couriers bring news
While the era is mute and the countries silent

35. People between lamenting and crying
Birds from the past and present visit me

36. At dawn guiding the darkness, my regrets
Follow theirdeparture, sunk in deep slumber

37. Leaving the abodes melting in longing
Moaning in sorrow and endless suffering

38. The tyrants of calamities have darkened their brilliance
And time has decided their worst fate

39. A nation misled by passion
Preachers have blinded its eyes with covers

40. Buffeted helplessly by storms
Wearing the delirium of every raging lunatic

41. Then it fell dead, its corpses rotting
The pulp of kidneys and extract of entrails

42. The world is too narrow, and no approach
Opinion confused, possibilities wide

43. This is the path, so where are the guided?
This is the cure, so where are the healed?

44. Truth has clear ways in the darkness of affairs
White in features, without concealment

45. We are the sincere guardians, this is
The mark of guides and way of trustees

46. If the flags of jihad recede
The white gazelles and resting places of the slain do not

47. So step forward, O people, do not stay behind
Fearing at the encounter, like cowards

48. Wronged Egypt provokes your pride
And fears the gloating of enemies

49. Cherish the legacy of ages and fortify
The honor of sons and dwellings of fathers

50. Do not despair of misfortunes that befall you
And take the path of the upright youth

51. Time is a day of humiliation and disgrace
And time is a day of pride and dignity

52. The delusions of every deceitful agitator prevailed
And the opinion of all disputers prevailed

53. Is there one in the East who echoes my cry?
Or in shelter, one who answers my call?

54. He who made life a path
Revealed its truths to poets
