1. You ask us about the speeches of the Caliphate
Answer me, O Farouk, a sad young man

2. The throne which you held firmly
By the pillar of time and you rose high for a while

3. So where is the might that breaks through deaths
And devours regiments and fortresses?

4. And where is the glory that overwhelms all glory
Even if the lofty made it a ship for him?

5. It flows taking all regions quickly
And it organizes all Caesars together

6. The Caliphs passed away from you so where did they settle
And how did you alone remain informing us?

7. And if you were given righteousness or loyalty
You would have held on the heels of the slanderers

8. Which child mourned you and which archer
Whose arrows missed and whose bow was bent?

9. You lowered your wing and was a foot
Protecting the Caliphs, refusing to yield

10. And the darkness crowned you while you were a light
Overflowing upon the nations of Muslims

11. The planets avoided you distracted
Turning their eyes around your flanks

12. Cowering, avoiding the evils of nights
And fearing that they would be disgraced and diminished

13. This age was confused about you until
Its events thought doubtful thoughts

14. So patience if you want or exhaustion
And solace from your bosom or wailing

15. I wronged your love, you are the most faithful
And the most honest in oath and the greatest in religion

16. Should I let flow tears generously and freely
And not pretend agony and moaning?

17. Time has saddened manliness in you
Afflicting you in your first people

18. Is not time for them an eloquent tongue
When they speak and a right hand for them?

19. It rebelled shaking off crowns from them
And seizing thrones from those who held them

20. They wandered in the lands, their expanses too narrow for them
While they were the ones who widened them

21. When they came upon kingdoms, the kingdoms denied them
While they were the kingdoms' deniers

22. I wonder at them, kingship passes from them
While the thrones of kings have not ceased

23. Some vile accident humiliated their foreheads
Dishonoring glory and protected nobility

24. Gently, for it is the world, and patience
For the lament of the grieving avails not

25. God Most High brings about every matter
With destinies that go and return

26. His command came upon them so they became kings
And departed driven and weakened

27. And I have not seen the likes of politics in its harm
And in its excuses it provides hundreds of pretexts

28. It changes upon the lions so it contains them
And claims that it protects the dens

29. It wants so it creates various colors
And innovates methods and arts

30. And takes spilled blood as a blossom
Thinking its stench is fresh water

31. The instrument of betrayal never preserved a covenant
Nor respected a pact or friend

32. The wretched is afflicted with it yet cares not
Whether it cast out the fathers or killed the sons

33. O Banu Uthman if you grieve, it is a right
And if patient, the best of the patient

34. Prepare for misfortunes what you can
Of faith and arm yourselves with certainty

35. A father's life, a miser begrudged it
Fearing for it the plots of the haters

36. He has the excuse of the trusted one, so if you consent
The best of people is he who excuses the trusted one

37. The conqueror decided the matters so do not criticize
The affairs of the king until they become clear

38. And what benefit is the Caliphate when it becomes
Idle talk of jesters

39. It was shaken drinking various sorrows
At the hands of wicked schemers

40. It helps the Muslims when they cry out
And aids them against the colonizers

41. So when the earnestness of war grew firm
The forces of enemies cast the aiders

42. We prevented injustice from tyrannizing them
Yet they betrayed us while they were the oppressors

43. We are struck for their sake and stricken from them
So if you wonder, that is what we have encountered
