1. A year approached, time ushered it in
Marching the processions with banners unfurled

2. It controlled events, they flowed through its reign
Roaming kingdoms, appearing and whirling

3. At times guiding nations, at others
Building for them a grand, towering rule

4. O new year, do you not see
Nations of the Book hopefully facing your cradle?

5. They hurried to you to trace from their news
What startled the ages and caused them to shake

6. And lead before you some of their hopes
That time, betrayer, had frustrated and stalled

7. The years before you confused them, so they lost hope
For anguish that broke hearts with no cure in sight

8. Shield them from lethal despair, and be
A year of life in which they attain the heights

9. For a time, following Scripture’s signs, they built
Until destroyers razed it with quaking and quelled

10. Show us your book, or keep it concealed
For we foresee it in the distance, portending and telling

11. We are not successors if we do not build
Glory upon the pinnacle of stars, scaffolded well

12. God taught us righteous living
And refused that we stray and dwell in ignorance

13. Say to those misguided: take your book and leave
For we will follow the Book sent down and revealed

14. Truth is our honor, we guard its fence
With knowledge, preventing defeat and disgrace

15. Justice is our strength which we hurl
At the unjust, striking them down when they attack

16. O instigator of brutal war, your greed
Makes you stoke it, engulfing kingdoms in its wake

Ready the blades in their scabbards, innocent

18. For if you battle truth, I will sever and break
Leave the fortresses and citadels, for you’ll never see

19. A defense like knowledge, sheltering people and sealing their fate
Glory to the hero whose banner is protected

20. From being stained by blood spilled or wildly unveiled
O dawn of the new year, sparkle and shine

21. For years are expected to glitter and hail
You rose over Islam in its glory
