1. O master of command, I do not disobey any of your orders
Whether you let me live forever or increase my lifespan
١. يا صاحبَ الأمرِ لا أعصيْ لكَ أمْرا
إنْ أنْتَ خلَّدْتنِيْ أوْ زِدْتنيْ عُمْرا
2. And you promise me, carried in your right palm
Gardens of Eden with rivers of wine flowing
٢. وعُدْتنِيْ حاملًا في كفِّك اليُمنى
جِنانَ عدْنٍ يسيلُ خمرُها نهْرا
3. And you bring me that which will suffice me from God
If I disobey and do not follow his command
٣. وجِئْتنِي بالّذي يُغنيْ منَ اللهِ
إذا عصَيتُ ولمْ أُطِعْ لهُ أمْرا
4. And I do not glorify him secretly or openly
And I do not pray to him late into the night or at noon
٤. ولمْ أُسبِّحْ لهُ في السرِّ أو جَهْرا
ولم أصِلْهُ بجوفِ اللّيلِ أو ظُهْرا
5. O master of command, if you granted me the whole world
And doubled, tripled my share, I would not accept it as a dowry
٥. يا صاحبَ الأمرِ لو وَهَبْتَني الدّنيا
وزِدْتَ ضِعفيْنِ ما رضيتُها مهْرا
6. For a corpse, that if it dies, becomes unknown
Increase it with more than what it gains, even if it is a grave
٦. لجُثّةٍ إنْ أُمِتُّ أصبحتْ نُكْرا
أكثِرْ بهِ من نوالٍ إنْ يكُنْ قبْرا
7. What is with you all and she who, if pious, would be
For me on the day people rise from their graves, a treasure
٧. ما بالكم بالّتيْ إنِ اتّقتْ كانتْ
ليْ يومَ يُبعثُ منْ في قبرِهِ ذُخْرا
8. O destroyer of this fleeting life
You have lived two thousand or fifty thousand years or forever
٨. يا مُهلكِي للزّوالِ هذهِ الصُّغرى
عُمِّرْتَ ألفينِ أو خمسينَ أو دَهْرا
9. Until the second trumpet is blown
You will think that what you lived does not equal zero
٩. حتّى إذا نُفِختْ ألنفخةُ الأخرى
حسِبْتَ ما عِشتهُ لا يعْدلُ الصِّفرا
10. Look at the past and future combined, they did not
Surpass the length of what is left for us of life
١٠. أُنظُرْ إلىْ ما مضىْ وعُدَّ ما مرَّا
فلم يجُزْ طولُ ما ظلَّ لنا الظُفْرا
11. O master of command, who will protect us from Him
If He intends harm for me or you
١١. يا صاحبَ الأمْرِ من يُجيرُنا منهُ
في هذِهِ إنْ يرِدْ بي أوْ بكَ الضُّرّا
12. What is with you all, and the angels surrounding us in rows
On a land spread out smooth and barren
١٢. ما بالكم والملاكُ حولَنا صفّا
في محْشرٍ أرضُهُ مبسوطةٌ عَفْرا
13. And hell throwing its flames like palaces
And we will not find besides Him any shelter
١٣. والنّارُ تُلقي شرَارَها بهِ قَصْرا
ولم نجدْ حينَها من دونِهِ سِتْرا
14. And God above us is the greatest Lord
Woe to him whose judgment is not triumphant
١٤. واللهُ من فوقِنا أعظِم بهِ ربّا
ويلاهُ من حُكمِهِ إنْ لم يكنْ ظَفْرا
15. I fear a hell kindled for a thousand
Years after two thousand until it is no longer red
١٥. إنّي أخافُ جحيمًا أُوقدتْ ألفا
من بعدِ ألفين حتّى لم تعُدْ حَمْرا
16. I fear that if I disobey Him, I will be made to drink
Boiling water and eat burning coals
١٦. إنّي أخافُ إذا عصيتُهُ نارا
أُسقىْ الحميمَ بها وأُلقمُ الجَمْرا
17. We belong to God, there is no god but He
To Him we turn so I do not disobey any of His commands
١٧. إنّا إلى اللهِ لا إلهَ إلّا هُوْ
إليهِ نُبتُ فلا أعْصيْ لهُ أمْرا
18. I built, so you chose, when you gave me the choice of this life
You offered, so I chose, when you gave me the choice of the next
١٨. أبنتُ فاخترتَ إذ خيّرتُكَ الدنيا
عرضتَ فاخترتُ إذ خيّرتنِي الأخرى
19. He who, if his beauty flowed from his soul forever
Would not fulfill the secrets of his beauty
١٩. من لو روى حُسنُها عن نفسهِ دَهْرا
لما وفَى من سِرارِ حُسنِها سِرّا
20. My Lord, I have grown old, so build me a grave
In this, so build me a palace with you
٢٠. ربّاه قد خِرْتُ أنْ أُعَمِّرَ القبْرا
في هذهِ فابْتنِ ليْ عِندكَ القصْرا
