2. Bikum yazdaadu waafirahaa jamaalan
With you its beauty grows more abundant

3. Wa hal fee ghayrikum lilshi'ri ma'nan?
And who but you gives poetry meaning?

4. Wa hal fee ghayrikum balaghal kamaalan?
Who but you attains such perfection?

5. Fa in qulnaahu min qablu intishaaran
If we have praised you before as triumphant

6. Naquluhu al-aan fakhranwaihtifaalan
We praise you now proudly celebrating

7. Rawal majdhu hikaayatahu falammaa
When Glory told its tale, as soon as

8. Rawaynaa ahmarr min khajlinw aqaalaa
We told it, it blushed in shame and fell silent

9. Ju'iltu fidaakum laakinna shakkan
I sacrifice myself for you, but doubt

10. Takhallala mahjatee wa abal 'aduulaa
Pierced my mind and refused retreat

11. Ta'aqquba khatwahu fee aljasmi hammun
On its heels came a care that climbed

12. Tasannama haamatii wa aban nazuulaa
And perched atop my worries refusing descent

13. Wa ayna yahuttu shakkun hutt hammun
Where can a doubt alight when a care

14. Tarqqubuhu li'umrika lan yutwaalaa
Awaits, by your life it will not last long

15. Wa in kathurat duwaa'iyul hammi feenaa
And if causes for worry in us proliferate

16. Fawuldush shakki aghlatuhu nazeelaa
Still the child of doubt is their heaviest guest

17. Faqultu ithaa ruwaytu ruwaw wa'indal
So I said: when they narrate, let them narrate, and at

18. Haqqeeqati yuthirush shakkar raheelaa
The truth doubt prefers departure

19. Fayahudhu hudhwahu hammun 'araftul
A care then mimics its step, I've known cares,

20. Humaam famaa 'araftu lahu maseelaa
But have known no peer for this care

21. Wa shakkee annanee yawman sami'tu
My doubt that one day I heard of you

22. Bikum fa ghadaa 'aleyy ismee thaqeelaa
So my name has since seemed too weighty for me

23. Wa hammae annahu in sahha zannee
And my care that if my guess proves true

24. Ghadaa 'eeshee ma'asmee mustaheelaa
My life with my name becomes impossible

25. Li'antum 'aynuhu wa laqad abantum
For you are its essence, you have shown

26. Limun kaana smul majdad daleelaa
Him whose name is Glory the guide

27. Wa law 'arifal lazee kannaanil majd
Had he who named me Glory known the glory

28. Maa lmajd laa'taa smabadeelaa
He'd have given me a name in its stead

29. Wa law 'araft bikhuluqikumur ruwaasee
Had the firmaments known your nature

30. Yumaa ntazarrat duhuuran kay tuquulaa:
They'd not have waited ages in hopes of saying:

31. Falaw kunnaa 'alal gheybi uttala'naa
If we had knowledge of the unseen, we'd say:

32. Laqulnaa rabbanj ja'alnaa suhuulaa
Our Lord, make us level plains

33. Wa law 'araft bikum umamun uzillat
Had oppressed nations known you

34. Lazull da'uha hatta tazawwalaa:
Their prayer had lasted until nightfall:

35. Falaw lahaqat binaa ayyamu-hum aw
If only their days had overtaken us, or

36. Qadaa feehaa lanaarrahmaanu jeelaa
The Merciful had decreed us their generation

37. Bikum fuji'tu minan amsat tazunnu
With you I've been granted what seemed

38. Alazee huzeet bihee qablan qaleelaa
Scant before you made it plentiful

39. Wa haazee qudsukum huzeet bimaa qad
By this your sanctity I've been granted what

40. Tudaaneehi samaa'un 'ardanw atwaalaa
The heavens envy in width and length

41. Khayaalun kam tazayyanatil munaa kay
How imagination adorned its hopes that

42. Taruuqa lahu fayaateeha zaluulaa
It might please him and he might come desirous

43. Fakhuyiba sa'yuhaa falhusnu in lam
But its efforts were thwarted, for beauty unless

44. Yakum qudusan falan yurdee fuluulaa
It be sacred cannot satisfy the noble

45. Wa iz minnal kareemu 'alaa shabaabil
When the Bountiful blessed the youth of

46. Zamaani biruslihee minnaa jameelaa
This age with his excellent messengers

47. Wa atharahu bikum shaykhan liyumsee
And preferred through you an elder to make

48. Lisaaqihee bi zaalminni 'adeelaa
His predecessor equal in this boon
