1. If we have lied, that is because
A delusive life has seduced us

2. It started deceiving us since we came
Claiming it is the pouring rain

3. Then it said, pretend and make believe so
I do not turn away from you, for I am easily contented

4. Then, be mine, not anyone else’s
You know I am a jealous woman

5. And men are many like the stars
Circling the hole of my bosom

6. And beware following the false promises
Those after death are lies and fraud

7. This lifetime, your first and last
Then the graves will narrate your silence

8. So fill its cup with my pleasures
And let it be easy in the way of “Dunya” the flirts

9. Have you seen anyone claiming that I am a
Door to another, through which one can pass?

10. I have promised many creations before
I wish the palaces would narrate my bliss

11. And claimed to those who do not tire of dresses
That I have what will not bore the hearts

12. And we pursued what was lost of it as if
It were a gazelle hunted by the males

13. And we wore the garb of wealth in obedience
So it would see what the vain desired

14. And we took more of its perfume and sipped
Its wine from brimming cups

15. And borrowed money and sold inheritance
And left the homelands bleeding, they raid

16. And we sought its shadows though it is fire
And avoided its neigh though it is light

17. And claimed what we don’t have and spent the night
Laughing, its echo still raging

18. We were as we were until we woke up
And the evils sobered up from its intoxication

19. Like wolves, the religion besieged us
Hands testify to its grip and the lines

20. Whenever the soul sought help, it said
In the passion of Dunya, months are not counted

21. It had its fill of us and disappeared after seducing us
Thus we became like the slaughtered, writhing

22. Is there a way back so we erase
That question has not ceased to rage within us

23. If only it had said when we came that
Illusions are no solution for those who are spellbound

24. The wealthy among us got its pulp
And we got the pits and the peels

25. We lost both worlds, so neither
Pleased it, it loves fractures

26. No escape for whomever life seduces
So writhe, whoever writhed, stop O’ raging one
