1. The full moon's beauty needs no praise—it shines
Radiant, yet it pales before her face's signs

2. The bending boughs are judged by their straightness, while
Her graceful gait gauges their gentle style

3. A doe, released from captivity, stands there
While beauty's sentence sets her spirit free

4. It's no surprise that one glance from her takes me
To heights unbearable, that I can barely see

5. How many a look leads the heart to mourn?
Her gaze arrests my breath, my life uptorn

6. Amazing! How she takes the lions, brave, away
As she takes me on a feast day from the prey

7. A spark's in the cheeks—though the flame's blaze is dim,
It kindles a wildfire, raging fierce in him

8. When my eyes meet hers, lightning strikes so quick
My heart admits no pause, interdicts no sickness

9. A flock of radiant gazelles prance by,
Outshining every star that dots the sky

10. With proud falcons she'll outsoar the palace fore
As fiercely as lions guard their wounded corps

11. She envies the waving little branches, brash
And scolds the teasing winds that o'er them dash

12. If in her dream, a specter comes to call
She'll scare it off, or make it crawl or fall,

13. A single glance from her smote me so sick
Her blows have caused me pain and worn me thin

14. I visited while traveling nights unknown
So I was stoned by spies who marked each stone

15. Without her hair's veil, morn would have revealed my track
But instead trapped the sun, turned back its march

16. She charges me white nights and black combined
When very youth itself leaps forth, declined

17. She threatens me sans motive, full of storms
To make me shrink through lightening performing

18. How can I lead when she's commander still?
I'll follow her; she guides against my will

19. My will won't bend like wood smoked brown from flame
Her pride and glory my defeat and shame

20. Measure for measure she demands from me
And more she takes, denying charity

21. I am but mortal man, ambition's fool
Good hope and deed my only grace and rule

22. If man seeks goodness, God praise on him showers
I praise that I seek goodness in my hours

23. What favor I can't thank isn't a gift
Nor can I 2

24. The path to virtue spans our mortal strife
Why should I sell freedom to buy a wife?

25. I'll roam this wide, wide world that's hers by right,
With polished beauty and horizons bright

26. The landmarks of the wasteland will inspire
My soul while excellence my vision and desire

27. If I should fall in pits of despair, there
Comes mercy, saving me from hate and scare

28. Sprint like a rabbit; kneel down gentle-high
Dawn caresses her, dusk engrosses my

29. The dark ignites her; the gloaming crowns her deeds
The sorriest lot for this lives on her needs

30. East wind leads her travails; west wind brings her rest
Each daybreak disappoints; it failed her quest

31. She hoped that sunlight was pure water, clear
But gained no moisture, escaping in her fear

32. Come evening she hopes for rest at least
But dawns defeat her, troubled without peace

33. Hoping revived her; despair her friend became
Light and darkness nullified all the same

34. I've pledged to bear her to her destination's role
And that she'll find my goodness like a foal

35. She's reached the earth whose gods could not avail
The heavens fail; the only comfort in their tale

36. Her wish ascends to good guidance supplied
By he who's mercy turns from death and guide

37. When she came masked to visit in the dark of night
Dangers stood guard until the morning light

38. Her perfume caused such trouble and such strife
Her enemies nearly reaped her life

39. If not her hair, dawn would have shown my trace
But instead it trapped us without grace

40. She charges me with black and white night's techniques
When youth just springs, it withers and fleaks

41. She threatens me without a motive why
With lightning and clouds across my sky

42. How can I lead, when she leads every side?
I follow her; my will is nullified

43. My will can't bend like pliant wood turns brown
While glory and wonder make my spirit drown

44. The verses fail to capture your full essence
But my soul hopes your heaven finds acceptance

45. Through your praise, my case seeks justice swift
Against the hordes whose scorn my soul does sift

46. I've written prose in hope you'll hear my call
My friend, can I sleep or must I write it all?

47. Blessings on you whenever perils loom
And good faith guide you past the lonely tomb

48. Be greeted by Abu Bakr when you lie
And Omar rule just as the dawn rules sky

49. You left this world forgetting not one soul
Thanking the Almighty making hearts whole

50. Blessings upon you till the age we dwell
And every field and meadow rings your bell

51. To you my Prince but to the Lord beside
As every cause is lost and souls have died

52. O you whose pledge of truth will never bend
You promised triumph until the end

53. I pledged myself before your holy court
As shooting stars all hopes do transport

54. I sent my wishes out like diving birds
They returned with promise that was heard

55. I told you of conditions you were aware
Repeatedly, until you truly cared

56. Sins that if stacked could barely stand
Save me, raise me! Lend your blessed hand!

57. I call to you who answers sincere plea
And grants when asked in privacy

58. Have certainty my prayers will come through
When bonds with you are straight and true

59. How many hearts by you found holy grace
When struck by arrows in that sacred place?

60. To shepherd's staffs, the Arabs bled and bruised
But you preserved those souls that rightly choosed

61. This poem's deed redeems my standing ground
Before the judgment where despair is crowned

62. I called you: you who fail no needy soul
Whose gracious power makes injured whole

63. My burdens borne, all hopes now shine
Met by your spirit, transforming mine

64. I have seen Arabs bleeding, sore distressed
But you healed them, gave them peace and rest

65. It's enough that these poor verses give
A glimpse of what within my soul does live

66. The best of all is that it's witness bears
The host of heaven: no truer praise it shares

67. I hope you see me as your servant, Sir
Make this, my poem, acceptable to her

68. How many refugees by you restored
Were raised in glory by some gracious word?

69. Reward me, reward me for my song and sighs
Refuse me not your generous heart's prize

70. Accept these maidens made by human care
Who look to you, all good to bless and share

71. Prolixity gives them their charm and worth
As conciseness denies their grace and mirth

72. If verses fail to fully sing your praise
It shows your might, not wanting in my lays·

73. My odes about you help my humble soul
Against the raging currents where I stroll

74. For you I'm sleepless, restless in the night
My friend, can prose or poem give delight?

75. God send you blessings when hard trials disquiet
And faith console beyond the lonely quiet

76. Cover in death may Abu Bakr remain under
While Omar rules just as the dawn rules thunder
