1. The sharp teeth of the disappearers
Cut short the lives of the gentle

2. And made gray the temples and years
And filled me with sorrows from all quarters

3. I melt with grief, anguish and love
And proclaim in sighing prose and verse

4. And now strike my cheeks with my hands
When the voices of the wailers grow harsh

5. My mother's grave makes cemeteries dear to me
So I mix my tears there with my blood

6. Dyeing the folds of my gown and shirt
Tears streamed down my cheek watering my lips

7. So who can blame me if I live weeping
And sorrow returns to be my ordained lot

8. For in my crying is my commemoration of my mother
And what mother is like other mothers

9. Chaste of dress, pure of gown
Sacrosanct, never mentioned with shame

10. Dear to her people, prosperous carpenter
Of the soft-spoken, bashful excellent ladies

11. She is the kindly, caring mother
And she was to me, my children and friends

12. Closely, truly my pious mother
The imam of the praying devotees

13. So in times of distress, we were in bounty
And though we were like orphaned children

14. She fed us the food of a generous father
And forbade us the harm of disasters

15. Until we took wing and flew
And met with success in her care

16. And hoped to repay her goodness
And reward her as one who has brought favor

17. Upon her came the decree of grief over us
And it led, in losing her, sorrow to us

18. And had she asked for sacrifice for her, we would have ransomed ourselves
For we harbor in us readiness for redemption

19. We would bear her despite objections
Carrying her on shoulders to shoulders

20. And bring her down to the floors of tombs
Neighboring the lonely graves

21. And she left behind her a gentle sorrow
An intimate companion never leaving us

22. We drink in losing her, a gushing tear
Like the pools of Dhil Majaz ceaseless

23. May God guard you, O my mother guard you
And from misfortune guard your tomb-mate

24. And in the hereafter protect you from doom
And admit you to the eternal gardens

25. Still the clouds weep over you
Watering the neighbors when they watered you

26. A sky full of rain stars poured on you
Shining in the night and in the morning

27. And rewarded your reward with bounties
So you became more deserving than those deprived of reward

28. And admitted you to the gardens without reckoning
And privileged you with prayers and praises

29. Do you know, O my mother, of my state
And my longing and love for you and what fate is mine

30. For after you remain in my worry and woe
And in sadness and disquiet worries

31. And my wish was, before you for a moment
For devastation to, for your grave, hasten

32. But the grave, before you, narrowed and contracted
Nor will this yearning cease, my lifetime

33. We accept fate and thus accept
Chasten O mother, do not chasten us

34. For true is the sadness in losing you that we meet out
And we follow in your tracks to the final abodes

35. For the rule of death, O mother, is universal
In it unavoidable, without blame

36. So who then endures or who then lasts
And what bone endures untouched by decay

37. Happy is the grandfather in whose supplies lies plenty
And most sagacious is one the auctions embellish

38. And meets after what he meets of ordeals
The provisions of lasting righteous works

39. Please O Lord I ask You for pardon
For the sins that raged boundless

40. In a soul long overflowing transgressions
To the earnings of abominable sins

41. Woe unto me, evil in deeds, woe!
Some openly and some discretely veiled

42. So grant me from You O Master mine, absolution
Accept my repentance before my demise

43. And bless the prophet our intercessor for us
And his companion and bedfellow

44. And his family of noble glorious lineage
A prayer from You that erases evil deeds
