1. Sustenance is apportioned among Allah's creations
And people are of two kinds: provided and deprived

2. Do not weary your soul seeking sustenance
Far is the one free of this world from the worried

3. And perhaps a sparrow is granted sustenance
With which it lives while eagles are deprived

4. And man is judged in both abodes
And all that the Merciful has ordained is unavoidable

5. We are but travelers in this world
And it is a pathway to eternal congregation

6. We live gathering what was scattered
Rebuilding what was demolished

7. And we are all busy with worldly desires
For which there is delay and advance

8. And we know not when death, the defeater, will come
The noble and the worthless are equally destined

9. Our hopes are in a youth while old age decays us
And they are defiant while our bodies weaken

10. We hope for survival yet survival for us
Is nonexistent in reality we know

11. Our hopes from those passed are a lesson
Their rule spanned the seven continents

12. Their share of it was but graves
And all are destined for the cycle of fate

13. Ruin upon a house that does not last
Where no oppressor remains or oppressed

14. Its rich remain not in it, rather worried
Its poor live miserably and saddened

15. It laughs not but weeps at supplication
And when kind it withholds blame
