1. How strange is one who hopes for success, a crying infant,
Yet he is the one persisting in wrongdoing,

2. O you who claim piety in words,
But your actions are far from truth,

3. You disobey God yet pretend to obey Him,
Not so does the sincere lover act,

4. You were hypocritical in your hypocrisy and persisted
In the guise of sincerity and the nature of a hypocrite,

5. And you brought reprehensible deeds before Him
Though the reprehensible to Him is not lasting,

6. And people see in you good manners
While you meet the Lord with ill manners,

7. You hope for reward but do not follow His path
You did not flow with the tide of the surging sea,

8. And I saw you like a lightning-flashing cloud
That thunders but does not send down rain,

9. The dress of every old man is a white garment
Yet his heart is blackened with the clothes of thieves,

10. You agreed with the righteous in their words
But in deeds you do not concur,

11. You proclaimed against your hidden secrets
So you are the epitome of lastingness,

12. You raged among the foolish, desiring
But you do not hasten away from the wicked,

13. You are like a moth burning itself
Not knowing which is the burner when it falls,

14. Do you not fear when you stand being questioned
And are asked about each minor and major sin?

15. On a day of terrors that make the hair of a child curl
Ah! That situation, a day of tremors, rumblings and lightning bolts,

16. And a reckoning of agonies that testify
Against their deeds, with witnesses departing,

17. O Lord, I trust in Your pardon, who can trust
In the horror of that day, who is certain?

18. Do not take me to account for my crimes, they
Broke my strength and burdened me,

19. I am repentant to You, turning to You, asking
For guidance on the path, guide this visiting guest,

20. If I have no creator to save me through them
In that straitened situation,

21. And grant me pilgrimage to the House, then
Visiting the truthful guiding Prophet,

22. And grant my companions what You granted me
And accept my prayer, O Sustainer, my Grantor,

23. I came to perform pilgrimage to Your House
My reliance is on You, I hope You will sustain me,

24. And I cut off relations from all but You
So do not cut off my relations with You,

25. I parted for Your sake from the one who
Did not desire to part from me,

26. And I disobeyed for Your sake those who blamed me
While still enduring the heat of the clinging road,

27. At times folding the turban, at times the headcloth
While the ship folds the surging sea,

28. And I came to deserted places
Where partridges call me to them,

29. Where bitter waters accumulate
That drip a taste more bitter than aloes,

30. The ships fold the turbulent sea at times
And at others I fold the barren lands like a departing guest,

31. My purpose is Your approval and hurried pilgrimage to Your House
So grant me victory through pardon, everlasting,

32. Make it easy for us and protect us from the evil
We fear of harm and dread obstacles,

33. And make for us a barrier from the unseen guarding You
Against the loss of sinking minds and loss,

34. My purpose is Your approval and hurried pilgrimage to Your House
So grant me victory through pardon, everlasting.
