1. Farewell, O month of parting farewell
For departure has drawn near and hearts have yearned

2. And separation has pained the hearts of a people
And how much love, alas, has been disturbed

3. How can we journey on after being together
When separation has annulled that union

4. You were the beloved to us and we
Feared you intended to bid adieu

5. But every assembly in which
The crow of separation caws is ruptured

6. You have lit our hearts aflame with separation until
The mere mention of you, O Abu Fatra, pains

7. Your beautiful nights have passed from us
With days that raced by hastily

8. You passed by us like the passing of a specter revived
Not having enjoyed rest

9. And you pulled away the reins without sorrow
And sadness that cannot be endured or resisted

10. And who can we blame if after your
Parting we weep copious tears

11. We were accustomed to your blessed way
And we parted when we were but saplings

12. It is fitting that we melt in sorrow for you
And loudly bid you adieu at parting

13. And every joining has an eventual reunion
Though the swervers may increase in swerving

14. Will you return in the fasting months
That we may attain through return, rapprochement

15. You have gladdened the hearts of your companions
And sanctified the broadcaster and broadcast

16. The angels of heaven accompanied you
And we became familiar with mosques and congregations

17. How much of your light you clothed on a saint
As you filled cities and lands

18. Whenever the night darkened your light shone through
And shone through the seven oft-repeated

19. And in you is the night of ordainment in which
All matters become harm or benefit

20. The Night of Power equals a thousand months
A boon to the diligent worshipper

21. How many virtues of yours cannot be counted
You carried them and your blessings spread

22. You left and would that I knew whether my sin
In bidding farewell was erased or noted

23. Farewell O month of Ramadan, farewell
Your parting after closeness has pained

24. Perhaps God will allow a reunion
And replace disfavor with effort amended
