1. Consolation, for not every living lasts
Nor escapes the doom of annihilation

2. Whoever hurries, death takes away
At the start of the race

3. Each son of eve, however long his life
Is destined for death's thrust

4. The soul of the mighty and the lowly
Are destined for doom in the race

5. In the valley's lap, death takes alike
The fisherman and the elite

6. He whose shoes death wears
Is like one who rides the buraq

7. Death of the honored and the disgraced
Is like death of the hypocrites

8. The serpent of death has a sting
With no healing doctor or potion

9. Strange is one who weeps over another
With tears not worthy of flowing

10. He owes it to himself and is obliged
To weep and weep before parting

11. Not all who died were missed
Nor were all horses gifted freedom

12. Loss is but a generous soul's departure
From the abode of dignity and glory

13. Like Abdullah Al-Aghbari, the youth
Master of lasting generosity

14. My brother of piercing eyes and ready wit
Lord of cauldrons and butter churns

15. Caravans gather at his door
Some from Yemen, others from Iraq

16. They complain of his justice upon them
As swirling stars complain of their cycle

17. His hands extend in generosity
Like the nimble hands of a baker

18. In a night of Jamadi, when water froze
And downpours ceased

19. The north wind blows fiercely
Uprooting the mansion's pillars

20. Stoked fires blaze
Lighting up guests who visit by night

21. When misfortune descended ferociously
It refused to settle on the honorable

22. To all people He has blessed
But the disgraced have no share

23. Of easy nature and generous gifts
Relieving the deserving of hardship

24. A forbearance that nights seek refuge in
Bearing heavy burdens steadily

25. Had he lived, his generosity would have remained
For not every free soul survives

26. Farewell Oman, we deemed you eternal
Your light beyond extinction

27. Your parting, my master, leaves us
In sorrow, anguish and grief

28. They say we are deserted without you
All horizons are emptied of you

29. Oman's people are now lost
Without you, there is no refuge

30. Who now shall care for the caravans, widows
Guests and friends?

31. Who shall the friend find
When seeking the bond of friendship?

32. You left never to return
No solace left beyond

33. You left the hearts of all mankind
In grief, sorrow and burning pain

34. The light of their eyes wept
Down cheeks coursing without cease

35. Tearful regrets weep over you
Hopes once placed in you now broken

36. Without you, grief unites
While weeping remains our common solace

37. What can tears compensate
Besides heartache and strangulation?

38. Your body lies under earth
While praise of you remains on people's tongues

39. Your legacy encompasses all people
Your honor bright as the radiant sun

40. Your grave was watered from the rain clouds
Down the valleys and streams

41. May your family be consoled
For the days you left them embittered

42. My own pain is like strangulation
Tightening more with each breath

43. I accept the decree of fate
And what my destiny holds

44. You rode ahead of us before
While we follow behind

45. We saw them race towards doom
And we race next in line

46. No wise soul trails after them
Dwelling in grace and dignity

47. O ignorant one, it is time to depart
Have you prepared provisions?

48. Would you journey without provisions
To an abode of barren wilderness?

49. Take provisions of piety, my brother
And be ready before the time comes

With ceaseless blessings

51. And his companions, and followers
As long as stars shine at night
