1. Sorrow gushes and a heart breaks
Sorrow surges and tears flow

2. Regret hovers and longing rises
It ascends with sighs and pains

3. With sighs the grief repeats
It nearly cracked my ribs and bones

4. A disaster compared to which all disasters
Seem trivial, and an affliction not to be relieved

5. It is a piercing wound with no healing
Never any dignity restored

6. This is the great calamity, this is the
Grievous news, this most dreadful event

7. A mountain sheltering the living collapsed
A foaming sea and overflowing cup

8. The heavens, domes above the earth
Nearly collapsed at his death

9. He in whose mystery knowledge was buried
So knowledge was buried as he was buried

10. Today died the one we prided ourselves on
More than Auf, Ibn Taeb and Marqab

11. Today died the caliph of the Merciful after
The Prophet, the devout and pure

12. Today died he whose knowledge
Filled books and the vastest eras

13. Today died he who guided mankind
To Islam's laws, the legislator

14. Today a youth died at whose death
Every land and all who dwell therein mourn

15. Today a youth died who harms and benefits
For ever, upholds and elevates whom He wills

16. Sincere in his devotion to God
Never dissembling in praise and piety

17. Keen in discerning all that's hidden
His intelligence grasped whatever he desired

18. A judge who saw with his heart what no
Keen, astute and wise judge can see

19. As if both parties in his gaze
Were prey seized by his sharp glance

20. As if the explicit and implicit, gathered and agreed
Flowed from him, origin and branch

21. His heart the root of rules, his mind
The branch; from it rules branch out

22. If his knowledge were a sea that pictured
Al-Khidr's deeds, it would be a swelling ocean

23. If his asceticism were a light, for all time
It would be the sun filling the firmament

24. If his resolve were a sharpened sword
It would always cut down calamities

25. Did you hear, O happy Muhammad, when
Your father the summoner called, did you hear?

26. Among us you grew like a sapling in barren ground
That flourished though no hope of rain remained

27. One like you, Muhammad, being lost
The world, however vast, cannot contain

28. If time was too narrow to keep you
Glorious is your work, O Muhammad

29. So your memory after your death is like
A fresh garden, its plants lush in the morning

30. I weep for you though weeping brings no substitute
Nor hope that you will return to console me

31. Minbars, scrolls, sanctuaries and pulpits
Schools, gardens, fortresses wept for you

32. Great deeds, prides, and splendid buildings
You built, and tribes who feared you

33. Oman after you is an afflicted widow
Alas, after you its light cannot shine

34. You should rend its garment in grief
And scratch its face or slap it

35. You protected it with your knowledge
None after you can protect it

36. You possessed immense learning, yet still
The Sunni and Shiite sought answers from you

37. After you, Muhammad, the pillars of religion
Are demolished and dreams lost

38. You strengthened Ibadhi and Sunni pillars
Once firm, now tottering

39. Piety, knowledge, proof and generosity
Lie buried in your grave altogether

40. Your tomb has become inhabited ruins
While people's dwellings after you are desolate

41. Strange that a grave three cubits long
And one cubit wide can contain

42. The mountain of virtues and purity
Whose knowledge was an overflowing sea

43. Would that my grave, O Muhammad, were next to yours
That I might rest close to you in the darkness

44. You left me endless grief for you
Choosing whom to wear out with your sorrow

45. Just as I am worn out by you, so is the dust that holds you
In mourning after you, you made doves moan

46. On branches, cooing in sadness
And you taught the lonely places that

47. Like me grieving for you, they should grieve
When, Muhammad, shall we meet again

48. Or have we no hope of union before the Resurrection?
After you, the living are hateful to me

49. To me they are poison, and your friendship pure water
While after your death they shun me

50. As if among them I am Joshua
You were my most loyal counsellor in religion

51. But now I fear you are too far to intercede
You made me love these tombs and their people

52. For in them my secrets will be divulged
Two genuflections by your tomb suffice

53. As prayers, for the supplicant praying
I who console others for your loss

54. Am most distressed by you, my heart consumed
Strangest of wonders, a corpse consoling

55. Another corpse, the consoler most afflicted
The clan of Abdelsalam remain for us

56. Knowledge is perfected, Ibadhi more brilliant
Console, Ibn Muhammad, for you must console

57. Religion, in you meticulously guarded
Death's door admits us all

58. It is the path we must tread and hurry past
Upon the tomb of the scholar Muhammad

59. Gloom pours and darkness gathers
Weeping over him as we weep

60. With sorrows no tears can relieve
Watering a grave where he rests

61. And tombs around him holding crumbled bones
To the Merciful's mercy his soul has flown

62. Rising through heavenly spheres
And over him God prayed, after His

63. Chosen Prophet, as long as pillars stand
On the two noble ones, their family

64. And followers, and those who follow them
