2. The cups of death roam the vast desert
Bringing no peace, not even for the son of Salem

3. Nothing holds them back, not even an army camp
Nor do the rungs of a ladder hinder their climb

4. A young man lives the sweetest life imaginable
Yet life itself is but a dream for one asleep

5. We rise and retire like cattle grazing
No difference between us and the beasts

6. We hope for things unlikely to be attained
While death’s cups are the worst nourishment

7. For Salem I weep, and all people weep
With tears flowing down saddened cheeks

8. Though his uncles remain, and his son
And brothers, grief still remains

9. They are the remnants left for us, they are
Our protection, like mountains unyielding

10. When you have not shortened your sheltering wings
Nor limited your far reaching lead

11. Let the youngest among you become the eldest
Do not divest yourselves of noble deeds

12. For you are nobles from a line of nobles
And every noble inherits nobility
