1. Fires of sorrow flare up in my heart
And tears stream down my cheeks

2. I sigh repeatedly
Each breath barely reaching my lungs

3. My body aches, yet I'm grateful
My heart tortured by intense grief

4. My ribs nearly snap with each sigh
My eyes gaze towards the stars

5. If papers cried torrents, I would
Weep for the father of feathers ceaselessly

6. After the poet Darwish ibn Salem
There is no comfort or patience

7. Without Darwish my drink tastes bitter
And patience is as foul as rancid food

8. Were it not for fearing the Merciful
I would've wished to be buried with him

9. I washed him with my weeping tears
Would that my heart was his undistant grave

10. The living and night eulogized him
I avoided praising him at bright dawn

11. When mourning him, critics attack
While my patience strays

12. Sorrow's burn cools with time
But my heart's burn for him won't fade

13. Though he's buried alone in his grave
Through my sorrows, I'm yet more alone

14. My heart sees him, my eyes weep him
His memory melts my body finding no solace

15. I've endured a grief beyond grief
On a ground he's buried, compacted

16. He knew God since his mother's milk
Can anyone equal this devotion?

17. He narrated authentic, true stories
Who at his age could be as wise?

18. His brilliance was like Jesus, son of Mary
As he said the day he was born

19. If sorrow remains after him
I find solace in my Lord to endure

20. I will seek reward and patience
Divine bounty will show me tomorrow

21. We were created and promised death
Facing the fate we've been promised

22. Oh how deluded by vile worldliness
Allowing the unlawful, neglecting religion

23. My heart patience, your roots are gone
Your branch taken, do you last forever?

24. If he lived immortal on earth
The Prophet Muhammad would too

25. Blessings of God be on him as long as
Caravans don't stop for Layla, nor cooing doves
