1. Bend the necks of the camels that walk with pride
O you who drive them, if only the mind had kohl for me!

2. And reach out to me if you had backs
Among you a generous hand, the hand of one in haste

3. Let him stretch me a branch that may be a tooth for you
And a greeting from me like the spreading of mandil

4. So if you chant among yourselves it's as though
I see fairness allowed for you and the scent of cloves

5. In every rhyme wisdom’s marvels
And in every verse a stated wisdom

6. When you ride, make it your motto
The night, unlike the text, is better for reciting

7. And when you alight at an abode, seek refuge in it
And bless with his chant in the abode

8. It’s the waterer for you in every howdah
It’s the illuminator in every dark night

9. From his decree, splendor and majesty
The crown is placed beneath him from below

10. If you are forbidden, it is the garb for you, and if
You are permitted, it is the reward for the permitted

11. And when the yearner is limited by two limits
Yearning for the one he challenged, rising to

12. The best ample praise is what I support with
Hands held up to the generous, noble

13. My master, the Eternal, Prophet Muhammad
Intercessor, light, manifest

14. The pure, pedigreed, descendant of the pure, pedigreed, of noble lineage
Clearer than the sun without his clarity

15. That set, and his carpenter's light didn't set
The fire in Persia subsided for his birth

16. And the pillars of the palace of Chosroes the Tyrant collapsed
And the wolf spoke to him, and a gazelle came to him

17. With the greeting of an eloquent tongue
And the moon split with its frown, and

18. Filaments were woven for him in the cave with a weaving that relaxed him
Glory to Him who took him on a night journey to

19. The farthest place of prostration and the most virtuous place
The noble angels paraded him

20. From one filled gathering to another
Until he obtained his goal and won

21. The great, preferential honor
And drew the sword of justice until he showed

22. Islam a display like the unsheathing of decisive swords
And he began to help and his eagle

23. With the antelope and oryx falling broken
May God bless him as long as breath ascends and the book flows from fingers

24. My Master, rather the Master of all wilderness
I call upon you with the call of one afflicted

25. In me is an illness, whose letters are counted
It is six, and its cure has not been applied

26. Alif, laam, dhaal, noon, waaw
And baa connected, not separated

27. So ask your God to favor me
And with six of the letters be generous to me

28. Alif, laam, raa, haa, meem
From qaaf before haa, so it's the cure of the afflicted

29. And to you, my Master, my excuse: I
Fell short in my praise, the shortcoming of one in haste

30. Had I pictured all my tongues
And remained what remnants of grey hair withering

31. I wouldn’t have reached a tenth of a tenth
Or a tenth of a tenth in praising you, well-received

32. Had I been in praising you but a speck
In green or a drop in a stream

33. This is my praise of you, and God
Who praised you with what He says and intones

34. But I implore you, my Master
So revive the work of your supplicating slaves

35. I have exposed myself before you, so forgive my stumbling
That I do not visit you promptly in the howdah

36. It’s not that I’m ignorant of the truth in you, but
A preoccupation you appointed preoccupies me

37. So when I meet the year, expect that I
Will visit your countenance, if God wills for me

38. From me are well wishes and your mention
And the scent of greetings each coming day

39. And following you, your righteous companions, and
The noble family of the most virtuous class
