1. Whether called by Amr's mother or not
An echo between shelters would answer her

2. So O mother of Amr, my cloak has kinship
May Heaven's gardens reward her goodness

3. My guide rises with the sun longing
And sunset brings him longing again

4. He sighs, O mother of Amr, and weeps
Wearing away, O mother of Amr, his wrappings

5. Some people say one suffers from passion
But nothing heals the soul except its beloved

6. None heal me of yearning and love
Among people, but Amr’s mother, his physician

7. A doe shining the abode with beauty when she appears
Her wraps dyed saffron

8. She hunts hearts with her palms when she shoots
And shoots, surpassing arrows in skill or missing

9. My friend, no wound shows upon my body
Except by Amr's mother, his physician

10. So Amr’s mother is no commoner where she spends the night
On earth, but like blessed rain that strikes it

11. Either a downpour nears or Amr's mother
Thereby the winds blow gently and good

12. When you incline to the hillside winds
Their breeze comes to you, smelling sweet

13. It jumps toward us with feathers fluttering
The northern winds roar as they blow

14. Smooth, neither too tall nor too short in her
No blemish in Amr's mother to fault her

15. Her anklets strike the brave with their workmanship
With the swaying of her legs and feet

16. She wraps the waist-wrapper in coils around her
Damp, honoring sands like a hill

17. When she is bright, she is not too plump
When pale, no flaw in her pallor shows

18. She thinks nothing of spending the night threadbare
While the guest or some family get their share

19. Her shirt-buttons clinging is a defect
When pockets are empty, it exposes them

20. She sleeps despite hurried provisions
And sacrifices, though the wakers would spare her

21. So O mother of Amr, no bright-faced girl passes
Without my heart inclining toward her

22. I have a right to never recite a poem
Of verse but for Amr's mother and her youth

23. Will you reward me, Amr's mother, for my tie
To her, though all who wish me ill attack it

24. And though I stray, O mother of Amr, heed no call
To leave, I implore you do not answer it

25. I loved you when the youth was life for the lad
And when the needles wove all their shapes
