١. وَصاحب حانوت عَشَوتُ لِنارِهِ
وَقَد مالَت الجَوزاءُ نَحوَ المَغارِبِ

٢. فَقالَ أَلا عَجِّل لَنا النَقد إِنَّنا
أُناسٌ أَخَذنا بِالكَرا وَالضَرائِبِ
3. I threw him twenty eggs as white as
Stars on the scale's dish
٣. نثرت لَهُ عِشرينَ بيضاً كَأَنَّها
عَلى كَفَّةِ الميزانِ زهرَ الكَواكِبِ
4. So he poured for us a red one whose bubbles
Flowed like partridges when stirred gently
٤. فصبَّ لَنا حَمراءَ يَنزو حبابها
إِذا شَعشَعَت بالدَّنِّ نَزوَ الجَنادِبِ
